I assume your yard is the mowed portion? There’s not a whole lot you can do with a pie lot, besides a privacy fence. Is that your neighbor’s fence we can see?

You have lots of little doodads and tiny plantings up close to your house and driveway, none of which provide you any privacy. Instead, I’d plant an small ornamental tree on the red circle. Just off to the side so it doesn’t totally block your house from the street. Or a hedge row of shrubs near the property line. I can’t imagine it would be super attractive though, and it might emphasize the small size of your lot.

I see what you mean regarding a fence or hedge emphasizing the narrowness of the yard at the sidewalk.  Perhaps a dwarf blue spruce?

Blue spruce are my favorites! You have to place it very strategically to block what you want it to block. And you might have to sacrifice some of the short little things you have now so you have some yard left.

So to update the saga, another suggestion was plant a small ornamental tree (dwarf korean lilac, dwarf hydrangea, japenese maple, or dwarf redbud tree) to the right and foward of the pom pom juniper. Ideally a little higher than that, 6 ft? The whole bed would be expanded to include the tree and other plants, replacing the annuals in it. I have included several photos with a garden hose outlining the expansion I am thinking of. I also wondered if another 'rock' in between the new dwarf tree and the pom pom would help define the garden better. The hanging planters and iron planters on the porch I believe would have to go.

Paint the front door. I like your flower bed but your lovely home has no focal point. This situation is ideal for a bright hue for the front door.

For a tree, I like red plum with the purple leaves and flowers for spring color. And the door painted a rich Eggplant or Coral would be fantastic with it.
