How do you do curtains on a window with an eyebrow?

The ceilings are 8 feet that goes up to 9 feet. I would really like some drapes because it is very bright in the room in the mornings and sometimes our guests like to sleep in. Curtains would block the pictures on the wall but those could be moved. I would rather not do some sort of film or anything over the eyebrow part because it is the front of our house.

I would move the pictures and go up as far as you can with the curtain rods. I’m not a designer, but that’s what I would do. 🙂

I prefer the rod above the arch.

Architecturally the arch/eyebrow is high so 'privacy' isn't and issue and covering is thus not needed. The arches are to show, not for covering which is why they are often trimmed out very beautifully. The logical place is above the window below the arch where the two meet. This idea a room as to be DARK to sleep in I find curious.

It's a light issue. Our master bedroom is blacked out due to my husband's job, but he has been ill lately so I have had to sleep in that guest room and I don't sleep well in there! And guests who have slept in there also feel like it's really bright. I figured at least with curtains, guests can close them or open them to meet their own preferences.
