Can I install a reducer post tile.

Let me preface that I'm not a stranger to power tools and fixing house issues but there are some things that I dont...enter my conundrum:
We had our kitchen completely renovated. I thought that the company we hired knew what they were doing because that's all they do are kitchen and bath (my bad for thinking 🙄). They tore everything out except the floor, installed sub floor then laid the 12x24 ceramic tile. I now know that there should have been one of those pad thingys on top of sub...which there wasn't. Next thing dude is asking me what I want to do with the 1" difference between kitchen and LR. I don't know. Why should I know? It's not the business I'm in. Well, I do my homework (too little to late) and find that there is a reducer that should have been installed while tile was. He couldn't find one that was tall enough so he put 2 pieces of trim (overlapping 😒) together and slapped that down. Obviously it looks like utter crap. I was wondering if I could install the proper reducer now that the tile has been laid?
They have done shoddy work throughout and I kept making them fix the issues and they just quit coming around a few months ago. Most of the work, albeit mucked up, is finished so, legally I don't have much of a leg to stand on.
