Ceiling Dilemma

Hey There!

We’re remodeling our powder room. There is HVAC ducting that runs along the left side of the ceiling. The seller chose to frame the whole ceiling to make it look intentional.

What can I do with this ceiling to make it look more fun and intentional? What do you think about replacing the exhaust fan with a cool semi flush or pendant light? We don’t need a fan since it’s not a wet area and we have a large window.

Would you tile or wall paper the ceiling?

I have included photos of the vanity, sink, faucet and wall pendants we are considering to give more context.

Thank you!!!!

Here’ the latest pic of our powder room! I went with everdebz chandelier suggestion and love it! Now need to pick mirror and sconces. Any suggestions? Thx!

Ok, here’s where I’m at with the powder room. If it were you, what would you change? Paint color? Add tile backsplash? The travertine floor has to stay for now. Thank You!!!

Also, what do you think of either of these wood ceiling trays?

Holy talent!!! This is stunning and magazine worthy. LOVE Everything. The 1st celing is my favorite, considering the beautiful chandelier. From a decor stand point, I would add something to the bottom shelf of vanity to balance the eye. Maybe something gold or something with a natural texture?

Thank you so much for the compliment, KP!! I totally agree, the bottom shelf needs some awesome decor and I still need to decide on a rug, sconces and little accessories for the sink. Flo and Beth have given some really cool ideas. Very open for more if they’re feeling inspired.

I have been thinking about your bathroom all day. Maybe a splash of color in the rug that you can tie it in with something on the bottom shelf. As a side note, I am starting to "move in to our house. They bathroom is shaping up nicely. Pics to follow soon!

That is so sweet of you to think of our project, KP!!! That’s a very good idea to do a little tie in! Something to pull it together and give it a little touch. 👌 did you say that you are moving in and are also working on your bathroom? That’s exciting! Definitely send pics!!!!

We have been living in 300 sq ft with 3 dogs for 8 months while are house is being built. So everything is from scratch and I am desparetly trying to get the hubby to let me decorate!.....LOL Hopefully we will be finished with the buil in 2 weeks.

Oh my gosh!! It is going to feel sooo good to have all that space back!!!

Yes it will. 8 months is a very long time. As a side note, any suggestions of where to find brushed gold TP holder, trash can and toilet brush?

Ooh, that is definitely a question for the Houzz Goddesses on this thread. I am sure they know!

Nice that you like the light, a bit unusual... I liked it better in earlier photo rotated a little.

If your sconces will have a detail similar to orchids, to ceiling light, I think the ceiling is fine as it is. If you want more sleek, contemporary design, add onto the ceiling - wood right? is there another look than wood just to ask...

Everdebz!! I keep thinking about you! How are you?? Yes, I love your chandelier!!! I too agree that it looks better a little rotated; I just need to ask my contractor to adjust. Quick fix. Not sure about the ceiling. I think I dig it as is but I do need to buy sconces. That’s my next hurdle. 🙄🤦‍♀️. I hope you’re well!

Hey! I'm ok... I like the chalky blue-grey walls, and the floor. "Old world" touches. The other vibe is a modern minimal, with ceiling accent and slim light. I think of towels - do you think of vintage-y delicate? or a more textured look?

Thank you for your great (as always) thoughts and suggestions. I have been trying to figure out the towel and basket direction I want to go in. I was thinking I would wait until determining the rug before making my decision? I too like the light more angled. I tried this out as the lightbulb shined through a little too much initially. Wondering if it would be fun to try those bulbs that have gold, silver or gunmetal on the ends to make it softer on the eyes. I love those sconces but wonder if it needs to be a different finish (black or gold). I do need it to be a hanging light since the outlets are set so high. 🤔

What do you think about putting a soft led tape light underneath the bottom shelf? Unnecessary? Too modern?

Making sure the bead light isn't too large... does the light seem adequate - ooh does it dim? I'd wait on the LED - it has a modern effect I think.

Gotta follow. Great bathroom project, and you are getting great help. It looks wonderful.

Omg!! I was literally looking at that same light, everdebz!!! Crazy

    It’s at Homedepot.com

I am getting incredible help, Mrs. S!! So lucky to have it!!!

The chandelier you found that is installed is awesome and perfect proportion! It does indeed dim

    Other options?

Some more. Clearly, I have way too much time on my hands! Haha!

A few more. They’re all so different.

I understand, cause I'm retired and have plenty of time... you posted quite a nice variety! I'd consider what looks are in the rest of the house too.

    Some look even too low.

Found a houzz.com article: "Combine ‘statement chandelier’ with a pair of subtle sconces; this mix of “basic” with a striking or a dressy fixture will reduce the chance of the two styles competing."

If you would please, sum up what metal finishes are certain: what is the faucet for example... ?

just another bit from houzz: The American Lighting Association’s general rule is to mount them 65 to 70 inches from the floor, at about eye level. This allows light to fully illuminate your entire face without casting shadows. Ideally, the fixtures should be placed about 28 to 30 inches apart, but achieving this depends on the size of the room and configuration of the design.

Thanks as always, everdebz! You all have been so patient, thoughtful and helpful with me! I will most definitely search that article as it sounds right up my alley!

I currently have the Brizo Odin in black and a black mirror with texture that gives off little flecks of gold/silver. I am open to selling the existing faucet to replace it with the champagne bronze and changing the mirror to a different frame if it would be worth the trouble so I guess nothing need to be considered definite. I can tell you that the rest of the hardware in the home is a dark, oil rubbed bronze/iron but we may change all that down the road.

Thank you so much for sharing the lighting rules, so helpful! I think that’s why I’m looking for a hanging or lower set sconce to achieve that height suggestion.

Everdebz, You are a fountain of knowledge! My 1st pics of my bathroom on my new build. Thoughts? MD, check out the sconces. The light bulbs aren't right....I have been playing around with the amount of light. OK . My photos never upload. Suggestions

Hey! Are they too big of files?

May I just say how annoying it is that companies like Shades Of Light don’t offer free, paid for return shipping?? How are you supposed to know if it works unless you see it in real life? And shipping is so expensive. Argh

Just adding that mirror textured with flecks sounds casual and good.

I like that,Everdebz! I was looking at this one too! Kind of similar

To me, sconces don't 'need' extra details, lines and cords, but ok. Some have an industrial rod, like posted above. You don't need more beads I think, not in a small bathroom.

You’re right. No need to go bead overload

You had me at “Amazon” everdebz. 😆😆I love how you can return them for free if they don’t work!

    At Kohl's too free?

    No way!

What do you think of these sconces? They’re rattan.

Ok, I finally pulled the trigger and bought the sconces in this pic, attached. I figured I could always resell or put them elsewhere in the house if they don’t look good. I’m still trying to determine if I should change the mirror to a gold frame and/or the same Brizo faucet to the gold finish. Maybe I should just wait until I install the sconces to decide? Happy Memorial Day!

    Those sconces are REALLY cool.

Thanks so much, Mrs. S! Hopefully they’ll look awesome! Stay tuned!

I have been following along and love what you've done so far. I can't wait to see those really cool sconces. I love them, so unique.

That’s so nice of you to say, Cubby14!! I’ll send pics after they’re up!
