Match white cabinet paint color to trim exactly or shift a shade?

Help! My painters start work tomorrow and I'm having a last minute indecision on paint color. Background is we have maple cabinets that are in great shape but very orange in color and that look horrific with the new flooring we are having installed (a light brown-grey DuChateau oak wide plank) So we are having them professionally painted white with a glazing in the detail area. We have some existing white trim on the island and on our pantry door that is very pure white. I don't want to go too off-white with the cabinets and clash, but on the other hand, I prefer a warmer white in general and I'm worried that with so much square footage the bright white will be too much. For some reason white-white cabinets can look a little "cheaper" for some reason.

So, should I match the trim closely for best effect or is it OK go a shade or two creamier, like a white shadow or swiss mocha? The island cabinetry will be painted a contrasting charcoal gray color.
I do not have great photos but I've attached two showing the existing pantry door, and a wide shot that gives a better sense of the layout. The wide shot is taken before we bought the house so the wall colors and flooring are different.

The only existing white is the pantry door on the left side of the kitchen, a tiny bit of base on either side of it, the baseboard on the island, and the baseboard along the wall between our slider and the cabinets.

Many thanks in advance for any input!

my first inclination would be to have the door glazed so that it better matches the newly painted cabinets.
not a full on painting, but just adding the glaze into the detail area like you're having done on the cabinets.

White-white cabinets will not look cheap at all, you have so many great ideas. Cannot wait to see pictures once the kitchen is completely finished. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the comments, everyone. The pictures bluenan posted were especially helpful. I think I wouldn't want to go as off-white as in the Shiloh kitchen as that contrast is a little too jarring for me. What I was thinking of was a subtler difference. Our contractor very helpfully offered to paint two samples for me to see which I liked best and I think that will help me visualize. I wish I had just not painted the trim and doors so white in the first place! But we were moving and making dozens of design and paint decisions and I just thought painting in the existing color would be the easiest way to go and I didn't imagine I'd be repainting the cabinets at that time!

What color DuChateau flooring did you chose? Any one of these?

I think subtle variations are great. I wouldn't stick to the white of the trim. I would choose something softer. The thing to keep in mind when choosing paint is the undertones of the colors, in this case white. Make sure the white you choose for the cabinet is in the same undertone family as the trim and the flooring too! But I agree with you, variation on color and texture is what adds depth to your room. Good luck! Mary

@6 Peyton's Flooring - your pictures aren't labelled with the product names but I'm not sure it's any of those. We are using St. Moritz from the Chateau collection. Probably closest to your third image though that looks like it could be Danube. I found the online photos of the St. Moritz do not resemble the in-person version very closely. The samples and the full box we have is lighter and has more white and tan and less green in it than most photos I've seen online (allowing for normal variation between monitors).

I'm in the same situation. We have to buy our trim and cabinet paint tonight. We have the same kitchen cabinets. Are you going to have shiny cabinets when they're finished? We were thinking more of a matte. What color glaze are you getting? Our contractor keeps talking about a glaze but we are not sure bc we like crisp whir cabinets. What do you recommend? Our trim we were going to use pure white by BM,

@cminarovic, we are doing a satin finish, not glossy (another mis-match from our glossy, pure white pantry door!). I wound up choosing White Shadow which is just slightly creamier. The work is not complete yet so I have no idea how it will look but having carried some finished pieces around the kitchen and held it up to various places, I think I will be happy with it, even though it doesn't match the doors/base. I really like the look of glazing and I was amazed how much of a difference it makes in the look. It looks very factory-finished and has a lot more depth. But it is definitely a personal preference. Crisp white cabinets look lovely and would look more modern. My suggestion is to ask your contractor to glaze one of them for you and let you decide if you like it or not. It should only take a few minutes for them to give you an idea. My cabinets had 5 or so edges in the detailing on the doors and two on the drawer fronts and they didn't paint each crevice, only some of them. They didn't paint a glaze on the whole front and then wipe off as I had imagined when we started this whole thing, rather, they just went back over the creases with a tiny brush with the a darker glaze (I actually realize I probably could have done this myself if I had the time and patience!) The original glazing color they suggested had a lot of gold, almost mustard in it and I didn't think it went with our black and taupe granite and grey island color at ALL. They remixed it more of a grey/coffee color and I really like it. My husband thinks it's a little too dark/contrasty, FWIW. I wish I had a photo and I will post one tonight when I get home but it will probably be too late for you. Good luck!

I know this post is old but still very helpful. I was stressing over matching cabinets and trim paint as well. I plan on using White Heron OC-57 by BM in the dining/living/hallway of our new home.

But ALL of the cabinets are water stained and need to be painted. I went down to my friendly BM store today to get advice. The nice man said to use White Heron for the trim, cabinets, and ceiling but in different finishes. He said that White Heron is so white that if I used something like Super White that the contrast isn't great enough to show up. Well that piece of information was priceless to me! So hopefully it might help others in the future.

So the plan is to use White Heron in a High Gloss enamel for the cabinets, interior doors and baseboards. Then use it in a flat for the ceiling and a semi gloss or pearl for the walls in the dining/living/hallway. The stress is melting away....I have a plan.

    How did this turn out?

We decided on a slightly off white and I honestly don't notice a difference when I am not scrutinizing. If you compare the cabinets to the door casing carefully you can note a difference but when not looking for it I think the difference is not noticeable. I've attached photos showing close and far views.

The cabinets in general came out better than I could have imagined. The paint (sprayed on lacquer type finish) looks like a factory finish and you would never guess it is not original.

Wow it really does look like a factory finish! So pretty. I gave maple cabinets as well and I have been thinking about getting them painted. My kitchen looks very similar to yours. Would you mind telling me a ballpark figure if I wanted to do something like this? Thanks in advance. Enjoy your beautiful new kitchen.

Mary Rast Interiors would Benjamin Moore White Down 970 on my trim and doors coordinate well with White Dove on my kitchen and bathroom cabinets?
