Should I hang that piece in the fire place? and add pillows to the sofa?

I like the second one but would it look too traditional? I want a more contemporary look or O guess it depends on what I put on it right?

No mantel necessary here, but a few accessories will maintain a contemporary look:

Are the sheers a budget consideration? Two story panels set between windows would give impact, as would updated shades. These are light fabric, but not sheers:

Add a rustic reclaimed thick mantel start about 3 ft from fire insert. Go 5 ft across. Add very tall items. In color.like tall glass pots. Are sheers going floor to ceiling they should. Add black print like chevron pillows to sofa. Over mantel about 6" from top of mantel ad a very big art piece. 6-7 ft and 36" - 48" wide. Bold colors contemporary. Go on line. Can be framed black.

Add two martini tables in silver in front of sofa. West elm carries. Sometimes u can find at TJMax. You need something there.

no, not really I just like light and I look thru a lot of materials and they were to thick they were going to block the light and the lake view.... when I saw those pictures I taught I was a good Idea.

The sunburst is to small for firepl. Firepl very tall, art must reflect that. Think scale. High ceiling are nice show them off by going big and tall.

Out black and white tall pots on media too.one end only.

Let the height of your fireplace showcase a longer piece. Something like this, run lengthwise, adds a different shape, movement, and repeats the material in your tree piece:

Travisinteriors yes they will go from ceilings to floor, I don't know what colors to use...

You'll notice in your second pic. that the fabric has a bit more weight, and a lot more volume. A better way to go, I believe - too thin a fabric will not last long hung high, or with strong light conditions.

I thought you said black? Or white against gray walls is good too. Instead of black go charcole. Just as dramatic

You want COLOR.....For a "quick" contemporary color addition...you can hang a long slender art piece vertically on the fireplace...these go to 8 ft!!
