Nice kitchen!! Stain the cabinets a lighter shade. What color is your island. Its hard to tell from your picture.

Consider painting island a creamy white. Leave cabinets as is or go lighter stain. A nice backsplash will make the room pop!

if there is no need for changing the wood cabinets I would leave them. Instead I would change the hardware and the last pics shows some lighting themes to bring into the space. those are things I'd update.

Stripping and staining cabinets is 10x the work of painting them. Professionally opaque ”paint” finishing them would be 7-10K. Stripping snd staining them would cost more than new cabinets.

And those cabinets do not need *anything* done to them. Nor does the rest of the kitchen. Add some lighting, and leave everything else alone.

The island is coffee. Very dark with a red undertone. I just purchased the island so I am not going to paint it. I should have went with white instead. I agree that would go better with the cabinets. I do plan on updating hardware. The exiting cabinets have a glaze grayish white around the trim of the cabinet which I hate

I like a darker island with white or off white cabinets. I would paint the cabinets personally (but that is just my own taste). I would make sure to find the right white that will go with your lovely counter.

Have you considered just replacing the cabinet and drawer front facings? Then stain them? Go lighter but not stark white. Beautiful windows and light coming in. You could also paint them a color. What about a blue/gray? Where is your dishwasher? Could you post a photo standing in family room pointing to sink. That would help. Clean off surfaces so we can help with mock ups. 😊

At the the hood area I would paint those upper cabinets to match the ceiling it will open the space there

From just a photo, can't see the glaze at the edges... I bet you like that the cabinet wood doesn't show much grain. I think you can work it together without major changes, imo! Ya added dark bowl too [what is the little hole for?... utensils]

Flo the dishwashers are next to the sink. They didn’t install them yet. There are 2 small dishwashers and they are covered like the cabinets.

Flo I have not considered refacing. There are a lot of cabinets. I didn’t get the whole kitchen in the pictures.

I the first picture I posted with the countertops installed it is a clean slate

As for the hood they didn’t install the upper part. The kitchen is not complete yet I am getting prices on staining versus painting Tuesday

Yes just picked them out. No chance of making any more changes Made enough. My husband would kill me. We updated all bathrooms also. Everything adds up. I will send you a picture of the bathroom. I am so proud of it

these sorts of rattan and cane or light wood stools will unite the two woods of the cabs. it can all work.

Staining is a ton of work and would cost you more than refacing.

Paint the cabs. your contractor doesn't know squat. If the cabs are PRIMED and PREPPED properly, there is no upkeep. But you will have to pay for this. Make sure you question your cabinet painter (not a house painter) on all of his steps and products used.

I had my cabinets refaced and painted. it's been over 3 years and theyre fine. they used a pre-cat lacquer. (I could have stayed w/my own cabs, but you see how the top drawers are slab and the others are not? I wanted everything the same. so I got all new shaker style (45 degree bevel) which are solid wood w/mdf center panels. much better for painting. the extra cost for all new doors/drawers was 2K. there's a double pantry off to the left)

everything should be taken off site for spraying, except the bases, obviously.

since your mont blanc and flooring leans on the cooler/gray/ashier side, pick a white that is also in that tonal range.
