reducing to one trunk is common.. but we need better pix to give better information ...

doing it while leafless is good time.. why waste all that stored energy on leaves you are going to cut off later ...

the only caveat would be if there are any oak bugs in your area... that might indicate another pruning time ...

contact your local extension office and find out if thats an issue.. and if it is.. ask them when the best pruning time is... or what to do about it..

Thanks monterreys not suseptable to oak wilt i dont know if i show let both get a little stronger first or cut the one and have all of spring energy for the remaining tree

a third option.. like you need it ..... lol .. would be to choose one.. and shorten it.. leaving some leaves .. but giving dominance to the other trunk ...

frankly.... in the ground 3 years ... and at that size... it should be pretty well established ... and ready for you to make up your mind.. and just do it ...
