i dont know about the spelling.. too lazy to look it up .. but jim schwarz used to video all the hosta college events.. i wonder what happened to all those tapes ... i know at least one minor celeb that gave a speech ... lol

i just figured he was implying that the weeds may have been a vector ... but that is just a WAG ....

hosta_maker..I'm thinking the same..not concerned about weeds could mean they don't worry about other things too..

so it's not just the presence of weeds but other practices that spread disease..makes sense..

I still can't help myself when I see what seems to be a "perfect" hosta marked down at a big box store..but I watch it like a hawk and plant it in a lonely spot..

I've had just one case of HVX..a 'Gold Standard' from Home Depot..🙁

did you notice that field grown hosta are grown i full sun ..

because in full sun.. they grow the fastest ... get to size faster ... and then if you want them pretty.. you put them in more shade

i'm sure they study and test the heck out of those varieties on what they can handle before they invest in them. but what works in holland or michigan doesn't work everywhere.

so there are alot of great hosta that won't work in that process. especially yellows.

they can only do the thick leaf yellows in full sun, ones like fire island have to go inside.

80% peat, 20% bark mix. That seems like a very wet mix. Can anyone give an opinion if that is a good general potting mix or is that more for growing them up for resale?
