Entryway Trouble

I’m having an issue with decorating my entryway/hallway because of the weird setup. The first thing you see when you walk in the door is my hallway wall. I would love a thin (6”-8” depth) console table but I don’t know if that’s a good idea since the hallway is only 36” wide. If I CAN have a console table, should it be centered with the entire wall or just the piece of the wall that you see upon entering? Should I stick to art instead? What would you do with this space? The only plan I currently have is to paint it white. The wall in question is marked in red in the photos. I appreciate any help!

I would not put a table there seems it would be in the way, as this looks to be a main vein in the home. I would do a series of pictures down the hall. or a small cluster there around the switch and continue down the hall.

another thought is to wall paper the hall way.

as a side note, I would look into seeing if you can have that switch moved closer to the end of the wall.

For some reason (happens alot on Houzz I find) we cannot post pictures, but I would google narrow hallway for some inspo

I would hang the long mirror in that empty space. I don't think you need anything at all on the opposing walls...because the rug is interesting, the stained glass door adds an element which will be reflected in the mirror. But, if you think the walls are too bare, consider decals which start at the baseboard.

Goodness, just move your mirror there. It looks like a doorway and will reflect your glass doorway and light coming in. It doesn't make sense located where it is reflecting the opposite wall. Add some art on the hallway walls, which the mirror will also reflect. You could add something like this next to what looks like a closet near the door. Hang an art work across it.

Some people paint their interior doors. Yours looks nice already since it lets in light.

I would not put a console table there because of the impact on the hallway. You could always hang a vertical art piece there so that guests see something interesting when they walk into the home.

Just curious what kind of rooms are there? and what's the 2' recessed part?

    Or.. across from the mirror?

guys there is a light switch right there she cannot just move that massive mirror there.

@everdebz I forgot to draw the first door at the entrance which is a coat closet, the rest of the doors include a linen closet, playroom, guest bathroom, office/gym, daughter’s bedroom, and primary bedroom. The recessed part is a little nook which I’m turning into a custom bookshelf 🙂

@housegal200 Isn’t there a kind of rule that you should not place a mirror directly across your entry door?

@RLRelocationLLC I’m definitely having that light switch moved! I don’t understand why they thought that’d be its ideal spot haha. As far as pictures go, should they be centered to that whole wall or centered with only the right side of the wall (what you see when you enter)?

I like all the comments, but also, you know what looks really nice in a hallway like that? : when there are 2 or 3 of the same ceiling lights. Cant post pics, but you can google. It would be pretty with the light reflecting around the mirrors.

    @Mrs.S I agree, thank you!

If there is a rule about not placing a mirror directly across from an entry, it's okay to break it in this case. A long hallways needs light, and your large mirror would double your light coming from the doorway. I like the idea of changing out the three ceiling lights to more appealing fixtures. Really, just these two things--mirror relocation and light fixture changes would transform the space. If you want to add art later on, fine, but you don't need to.

Center whatever-you-decide on the wall you can see when you enter the front door.

Makes perfect sense to move the mirror there.

So, step one is to paint and get the switch moved, then you can really vision something, hanging a picture above that switch would end up too high, and or be in the way. I would not add decorative lights there, as you have an air return and smoke alarm, dont call attention to that ceiling. I would instead do two long runners or get a one long one made from remnants.

I'm going to be the lone dissenter...

I think a very narrow console table would look beautiful there. Don't get one that's too wide or too deep, and I bet it would be fine. I had a small entry like that in a home years ago, and I found a small demilune table so it didn't even have square edges in case someone accidentally bumped into it. Not only was it fine, I thought it looked fabulous and was so much better than staring at a blank wall. Nicely decorated with some art or mirror over it - it would be great.

(edited to add, I had a photo I was going to post, but since this platform can't get their poo together to fix the photo posting problem, you'll just have to trust me, LOL...)
