the layout reminds me how a bunch of maple seeds may have nestled there and all sprouted at once ... so i wonder what kind of trees you might have around... and i dont think they are maple ...

what about astilbe or some such ...

Yes Ken I thought of Astilbe too.

We moved to this house last July. There is a dwarf Japanese maple nearby and I initially wondered if these could be seedlings that could’ve collected at the crown of the dead pulmonaria. But, these red leaves aren’t in the right spot to be the dead pulmonaria and the stems are hairy. I hope it’s astilbe! That would make sense because the other plants in the bed are hostas, boxwoods, azalea, heuchera, and the Japanese maple. Thank You!
