My New Kitchen Compleated

We started planning this kitchen remodel the summer of 2021. Lots of decisions and decisions to make. The Houzz community came to my rescue many times and I’m grateful for all the advice. The project officially started November 18th 2021 and ended on March 17th 2022. There were COVID issues and holidays and some reorder issues along the way. I’m just getting to put things away where they belong and figuring out design accessories for this traditional kitchen. If you have any suggestions for that I’d be grateful. I promised to post the kitchen when done. Here’s some photos.

Lovely kitchen, you did a fantastic job, enjoy!

Thank you so much for the measurements and additional photo details- they are super helpful! Everything looks wonderful!

@catlover Leo, went to the tile store today and found a small sample board of the Myorka White tile. It has two full size tiles on it. The 2 tiles look like the same finish, which is "glossy". I would describe as more of a pearl-like shine. You said the tiles come in 2 finishes and that you mixed 2:1. Is that what came in the box? Or did you buy extra boxes to pick out the finish you liked best?

    Beautiful!

Beautiful rug, too! You have really great taste in decor!

chispa When I ordered the tiles the boxes had two finishes in the box. Try to Google samples that can be ordered. That’s what I did. Try to get in touch with Soho to ask them about the finishes. They are made in Spain but Soho and s the seller of them. Look up their website. Or your distributor can inquire for you. I have a few extra pieces. I’ll try taking a picture for you.

Chispa here are some pictures for the tiles

The tile on the top is a satin finish. The one behind it is a bit more shine. It’s just the right amount of difference not a huge contrast. It looks beautiful up. When the boxes arrived we took out the tiles and separated the satin tiles from the more shiny ones. Then the installer did the 2-1 Two satin and one shine.

Catlover I think the idea of a roman shade is a tomato tomatoe. It would act more like a pretty valance and the pop of softness and color could be very nice. You certainly don't NEED it. Re-looking at your window I don't see any space above the glass to hang an shade and I would not want to cut down on your light/view. If you can't keep the shade mostly off/above the glass I think I would pass. You were right your stove medallion is perfect!!

Catlover, you are a star! Thanks for all the details. It looks like my sample board is 2 shine tiles, which would be too much reflection if every tile was like that, so good to know there are more satin tiles.

I need 130 sq.ft if I go all the way around the window. I think I will just order a box to get a good look at the tile. This tile is a "bargain" compared to the pricey Sonoma tile I had been considering, but just couldn't pull the trigger on.

One more question! Since it looks great too, what grout brand/color did you use with the tile?

That’s a great idea to order a box to make sure it’s what you want. I looked at many expensive tiles but for me I liked this one the best.
When I get home later this evening I’ll see what info I have on the grout.

There is no area above the glass. There is decorative moulding. You’re right a roman shade might cut down a bit on the glass showing up top. That’s why I’m not sure if I should or not. I’m going to think on it more.

Beautiful space, love love love the Taj Mahal counters. I miss mine from my previous house every day. Great job.

Chispa I looked up the receipt for the grout
931 Unsanded 9.75lbs. Standard White Grout PJ& West.
I hope this information helps you out.

@chispa I just wanted you to know I put the information on the grout for you. Good Luck with everything.

Just wanted to add, in case anyone else is also interested in this backsplash tile, that I did some research and it is sold by several vendors under different names. These are all the same tile:

Soho Studio - Myorka White 2x8

Equipe - Mallorca White (I think this is the actual manufacturer)

    Tilebar - Montauk Gin 2x8

Home Depot - Ivy Hill Tile - Amagansett Gin 2x8

The tile business is a convoluted one, with lots of re-naming!

That’s very helpful to anyone that likes this combination.
    Very helpful chispa.

Your new kitchen is stunning! The counters, the hardware, the style of the doors - everything works so beautifully! I love how you planned the tiles on the backsplash. It gives a lot of texture and interest.

Your hardware is very elegant, and I don't know if it's my phone or what, but the finish is hard to determine - and I LOVE that. I can't find what I want in a gold that's not too yellow or a silvertone that's not too cold. This is exactly what I think would suit. Do you know the source for your hardware? Please and thanks.

@chispa - I also think that Equipe is the actual manufacturer of that tile. When I was looking at Bedrosian Cloe tile, I discovered that it appears to be manufactured by Equipe also (Equipe Artisan) - and has been sold to a few different tile retailers and rebranded. While looking at the Cloe tile, I also found the tile used by catlover Leo in her kitchen (it is beautiful) on Equipe’s website - and discovered that it’s sold under quite a few different names/brands. You definitely need to buy a box so you can see the different finishes.

I would purchase it from Lowe’s if it’s in stock (free shipping + you can return unused boxes of tile for 90 days). That way you can order a full box to look at without having any shipping or restocking fees. Also, if you decide you like it, you can order extra in case of breakage during shipping so you won’t have to worry about different color lots if you wind up needing more for whatever reason. I’d also check Walmart - when I decided to use the Equipe Artisan Aqua tile, Lowe’s didn’t carry that color in Cloe ( the price was also better than at Lowe’s). Walmart also had free shipping + a good return policy (can’t remember for sure- but think it was also 90 days). Also, like Lowe’s, you can return unused boxes at a local store so there’s no return shipping fees (or restocking fees). FYI - not all items ordered through Walmart.com can be returned in-store - it depends on the seller (some third party sellers have different arrangements with Walmart and require items to be shipped back - the Bedrosian Cloe tile could be returned at a physical Walmart store).

@catlover Leo - your kitchen is STUNNING! I am also doing stacked upper cabinets in white - are your ceilings 9’? Would you mind posting before/after pics from the same view point (for example, if you have a ”before” photo similar to the first ”after” photo you posted in this thread)? I’m getting ready to start my reno in a few weeks (FINALLY) - and after the HORRIBLE experience I’ve had renovating two of my bathrooms (still not finished) - I need some motovation to pull the trigger on my kitchen reno! Thanks!

@dmac1108 Thank you for your compliment. Your information on the tiles is wonderful. I wish I had that when I was looking for the tiles. The main thing is to look at the tiles in the box and separate the satin from the slightly shine ones. I did two satin and one shine and it gives some texture to the backsplash and just a bit of “ something special and different”. We laid them out on the floor to show the tile installer how we wanted it.

My ceilings are 9’. I’m very sorry but I don’t have any before photos. That was something I should have done. I hope that the photos I’ve posted are helpful but if you need any other photos just let me know.
I hope all goes well with your kitchen project.

    @Rebekah L
This finish is Polished Antique Brass. I searched hi and low for just the right hardware and this was right on. There are different sizes for this hardware.
This is the information I can share with you.
The manufacturer is Creations by Alno Inc. I’ll take a few photos.

@dmac1108 what is the tile called at Lowes? I can't find it, wondering if they stopped carrying it. Thank you!

I’m not sure at Lowes. It’s Soho Studio Mayorka White

    So beautiful renovation!

Very Beautiful renovation, congratulations on getting it finished in these Covid days!

Thank You so much. What helped us was that we ordered the appliances 7 months before we started the kitchen. They told us to order way ahead beyond COVID. The appliances arrived soon after the project started. We ordered the hardware and lighting after they first installed the cabinets. We had to get a feel of the installed cabinets first. I’m glad it’s completed , we spent a lot of time and money but we’re totally happy the way it turned out. My favorite thing in the kitchen is the fireback. Everyone loves it that’s been to our home because it’s unique.

I really love looking at your kitchen, as I've chosen beaded inset cabinets (still about 3 weeks out from delivery) in a color equivalent to White Dove. And I'm getting the end panels for the exposed cabinet ends and your pictures show what they look like. Simply lovely kitchen.

Love the inset cabs. Beauriful kitchen.

@catlover Leo I've been coveting that fireback since you first posted your photos and scrolling through the comments I just now saw the detail on your cabinet hardware. Those pulls are stunning and thankfully mine were just installed or I'd be looking for a way to squeeze those into the budget. Your kitchen is all around beautiful!

cwcf185 Thank you so your kind words. I have a feeling your kitchen will come out amazing.

@catlover Leo You're too kind - thank you! I'm happy with it so far - cabinets installed last week and countertop templating done yesterday.

Catlover- so pretty! What do you have as trim around the firebrick? Is it tile or wood trim that separates it from the tile? I’m doing something similar and trying to decide what to use to separate the space. I found the cloe border tile but looking for another option. Thanks! Lovely kitchen.

    Hi @chestnut3
    Thank you for your compliment.
The trim around the fireback is made of wood. Our contractor created it. I’m very happy how it came out. I wish you the best of luck. It’s a unique feature and people that see it love it and want to know more about it.

I'm glad to see you came back catlover. Your kitchen is gorgeous! Just wondering who the manufacturer of the lights are, if you remember. Thanks

    Love your inset cabs!

@blfenton I’m so sorry for the late response. I feel so upset with myself, this isn’t like me. I usually keep this information.
I looked threw my kitchen file and my emails and I can not find anything I saved on the lighting manufacturer. Nothing. I promise if somehow it shows up I will post the information. I can tell you the project took so long to complete the kitchen with lots of research that when it was completed I went threw my files and must have gotten rid of the information on the lights accidentally. I usually always keep everything on a project.
I also don’t mind sharing to help others that are interested. Sorry again.

I have great news. I found an old email threw a search just now. The make is Capital Lighting @blfenton

I got the larger 16 “ size for over the island. I also have the chandelier info. I hope this helps.

How do you clean the tile? which type of cleaning agent do you use and do you use a sponge or a rag?

    Hi Michelle
My tile stays pretty clean because I’m careful when cooking. When I need to clean them I use a spray bottle with water and white vinegar. 2/3 water and 1/3 white vinegar. I use a rag. I hope this helps.
