Shou Sugi Ban?

Is this true shou sugi ban? If so, what type of wood was used? And were there any sealers used? I'm curious how well this will agree with the harsh climate here.

    Hi Tim,

Yes, we did use shou sugi ban on this project and the wood used is larch. It's treated with an ebony tinted poly sealer to protect and prolong it's distinctive look. Although the charred layer will change over time with the elements, it's durable, rot-resistant and capable of withstanding some pretty harsh weather.

It's been about 3-4 years since we installed it and there's been no issues so far. Our supplier for the product was Pioneer Millworks and shou sugi ban siding and shiplap are something they specialize in.
