I love deep purple with red brick

I particularly liked the color below, as the black shutters have to be complemented as well. Remember, it’s only a quart of paint and your time. I often repainted our front door over the years and I have a friend who every spring chose a new color. Try something new and you can easily return to black.

I don't think a cobalt blue will work which is unfortunate since it's the color you like. Your shutters are black aren't they? Red would work, and some shades of green similar to what the other poster showed. Purple would be unique.

It's difficult to see in the picture. Is your trim above the door yellowish? I think that color would be a cheerful addition that would actually highlight versus hide the door.

Black is classic, but too stodgy for my taste. I have a pink brick home with a cranberry door and love it, but I'm not as crazy about a red door with deeper red brick homes. I really love blue greens with red brick, but you are the one who has to love the combination.

I also chose the cranberry color for the front door because I have that color inside my home as well as outside. I like when the color of the front door acts as a prelude to the interior colors.

The black is lovely. I wouldn’t change it. You may want to consider trimming those bushes, though.

Love the BM Tarrytown Green and of course black is classic. Trim the shrubs way back and paint the flower pots same color as house trim.

No red. It will clash with your brick. The black thats on it, looks fine, but, if you really want a color, try something in blue green paint. A teal, or turquoise color. Colbalt wont look great on it either.

What a beautiful house! I love black with brick, but red can be very interesting. There's a classic red brick home in my town of older 1920s colonials that has red shutters and a red door. It's lovely and unusual in a very good way! But I also like teal or green. The best thing about a color for the front door is that it can be changed easily!

It’s a lovely home! I am not fond of black in general, but here it looks nice. If you want a subtle change how about a classic dark green such as BM BlacK Forest Green? Maybe BM Hunter Green?

Would not add additional color without deleting one or more current colors.

I agree the bushes need a hard trim back so they do not hide the windows. Also look for a simple iron railing for safety's sake.

I like the black. Cottage Red, Tarrytown Green, Washington Blue, or Dorset Gold would also look good.

I like the windows hidden somewhat in the summer.

Shades in the windows are more appealing than overgrown shrubs.

very similar to yours w/the gabled portico. see how they have it w/a black fascia and bright white elsewhere? can't tell if yours is bright white or creamy white. (and you should redo your house numbers. you can barely see them)

what this home needs is landscaping. proper landscaping will take this old colonial to a new level

those shrubs are overgrown and hide the windows. not a good look

Black, navy, or dark red, as you said, for this stately home. Any would work. Or a beautiful dark emerald green.

It’s refreshing to see a sophisticated formal home. Don’t downplay that with casual and jarring colors.

I’d trim the shrubs just a bit, but I’m with you — I like seeing green outside my window from inside. We had to take out large shrubs recently, I hate how barren and exposed it is now. Especially in the Texas sun and glare. I used to watch bird in nests from inside.

MUCH prefer "overgrown" shrubs that look real, rather than cut into unnatural looking shapes. Also think nature (shrubs) looks better than artificially made shades. Whether for privacy or shade, prefer using nature when possible.

I would consider building a wooden surround similar to some of the pics shown… as the door looks “ skinny” and undersized for such a big home… something that completes what the peak trim has started

@HU-127261482 I don't like formal landscaping and prefer a natural shape to my bushes, but that doesn't mean that you should have something that looks overgrown and unkempt.

I also like privacy, but that can be achieved with plants that block the view from the street rather than plants blocking the view from the home. Trees and plants closer to the street so you can look out your window and see your beautiful yard and people driving by see plants.
