Beautiful entry. Not a fan of the urns, they crowd it. You need evergreen foundation plantings to either side, which will compliment all of your lovely holiday decorations.

I have some evergreens to be planted on either side of the steps. I was just waiting to do it all at once but great observation. I still like to add some color with annuals at the door.

This is one idea I just mocked up. It would involve At Last Roses which arent annual but could still work in the space.

I have found that I just don't like "summer colors" (e.g. soft pinks, whites, purples) once fall sets in, it just looks off with the golden light and muted tones of fall. I usually start taking things out September-ish and replace with mums or just start putting the pots away. Reds and yellow I leave as long as I can, though, those look quite nice in fall, and red would look great with Christmas decor, obviously. So maybe red and white?

Im generally not a red lover but red being the constant color that mixes with others may actually work ok. I was also thinking apricot could work for all seasons except Christmas.

How does petite knock out compare to the drift rose? Is it more compact?

If you want roses, I would plant them in the back next to the house and plant short evergreens in front of them.

It’s hard for most annuals to maintain their vigor for more than a couple of months, so I think you’re asking a lot from them to look good for both summer and fall. Just choose some for summer, and then in September rip them out and replace with handsome new fall flowers like mums or marigolds or asters.

@mlee1976. I do not grow the petite knockout, and it is a new addition to the knockout line. The pictures in their website shows them being very compact and upright (literally a tiny knockout in avery way). Wheather they stay compact or not you would probably have to figure that out from someone in your growing zone. Roses do not have standards sizes and vary based on how warm your area is and winter kill. If you dont love red then you should look somewhere else. It really seems you like to change your landscape to fit the seazon so I would recomend do more evergreens and keep swapping the annuals so you can have a perfect array of colors.
