Last year I had a Cornish Hedge built around the garden.

The soil for the core and topping were brought in from outside.

Now its first spring is here, most of the plants I put in are doing well and so are the "weeds". :-)))

These will be left to do their own thing, for now, acting as ground cover and helping to bind the soil. Perennials will be removed, later, using glyphosate, annuals will just be dead-headed and grasses encouraged.

Apart from the expected visitors, and what looks like Papaver somniferum, there is this "triffid". Largest leaf is about 1' (30cm) long.

I'm still trawling through my books, but I thought I would chuck it out and see what comes back. I suspect one of the Asteraceae, maybe sowthistle group.
