    Whatever you use, it's probably going to need to be non-combustible since there is very little room between the opening and the side wall and you must maintain at least 6" to 8" of distance from the opening to a wood mantel leg depending on your local building codes.


    A steel mantel with a metal facing can go right up to the opening and does not need to project beyond the wall. Add a glass door and you have an industrial look.


    If you post a picture taken from directly facing the fireplace, I can create a better mockup, but this will give you an idea:
