there are lots of chandelier size/shape guides online - here is a one that I have used before: https://www.lightology.com/index.php?module=tools_chandelier_size - I have a very long rectangular farmhouse table and ended up using 2 lanterns instead of 1 long linear fixture so I think there are lots of ways to do it

You start by posting some info as to the table you have . There is no hard and fast rule IMO it depends on the style of the light the style of your space the size and shape of the table . An open ended dilemma gets IMO a bunch of ideas and no help. We need context.
