TV Built In Cabinet Depth

Creating a built in TV unit with four 30 inch cabinets. Currently debating the cabinet depth and wondering if 12 inch will be enough? TV will be wall mounted and wont put much on the counter. On top of cabinets we can continue straight up and do 12 inch shelves or can make or smaller and do 9 or 10 inch shelves. Thoughts on if we need bigger than a 12 inch depth? Tried to find ideal depth for built ins and didn't get too far.
