Looking at restoring the siding of a 1960's chalet in the high altitude region of the southern Sierra Nevada's. Not sure how to tell what sort of wood siding this is, the horizontal planks as well as the vertical side above the window.

Does not look like it was sealed for years.

1. After identifying the type of material, the next step would be to make repairs or find replacement for the cracked boards.
2. Then identify the procedure to clean, stain and seal siding.
3. Should facia be stained with contrasting color?
