It’s been so cold and cloudy here that I don’t have any pips that I’m aware of. That’s a positive since it’s going to be in the mid 20s tonight. A late spring for us.

Yes, it’s been could at night in Milwaukee. Still getting 31-32 at night. Only pip I have is a yellow Lily and crocus.

Saturday freezing..Sunday beautiful..

my pots are out of the shed..my biggest pips!..they'll be green soon with some sun..

at the moment..Lancifolia is bigger than Pineapple Upside Down Cake..that won't last..

Frost damage and dog feet are my nemesis this time of year :(

I usually put small wire cages around my pips to protect them from dog feet. But once they open all the way I have to get to them that day to get the cage off other wise I'll damage leaves getting them off.

So this year I'm giving a shot to leaving most of them unprotected. My dogs are pretty good about going around things, but if a bunny trespasses all bets are off.

This was last year- this represents my life quite well as far as the past 10 years getting this garden going. But my white wire is dying, I am loathe to spend any more money on it, it's hard to blow leaves, and I'm close to being over them.

I do have six Sum & Substance under a tree in what I call my hell-corner, and I did fence that off with some temporary fencing yesterday. They're finally getting large enough to be gorgeous and I need to see them undamaged for at least a couple of weeks.

Most things are pipping here and this week will bring everything up in force. I keep hoping we are clear of frost but after the last two years I'm pretty sure we have another one coming. I still need to get out and clean up the rest of the leaves. I was hoping they would keep the soil temps cooler and slow down the pips.

We might get large hail (baseball size) the next two days. I just moved my hosta under the cover of the porch, hoping to avoid extensive damage. The ones I've had a season or more are about 1/2 leafed out. The four I have purchased so far this year are fully leafed out.

I am hoping to get to enjoy them this year.

bkay it is great that you had warning of the possible hail. I really hope you do get to enjoy them. You have dealt with such terrible issues in the past.

I just saw our forecast..they said "severe weather" starting later (5 to 11)..they mentioned lower temperatures, wind, hail and "can't rule out" tornadoes..I'll move my 8 pots into my garage before the fun starts..🙁
