I've tried paint markers, pencil, Sharpie. Nothing lasted except using P-Touch label maker with their Xtreme tape. Has lasted for 6 or more years so far in my harsh Colorado climate. They don't come off and the print remains strong.

We use Avery waterproof labels. They have been quite durable for us. The only catch is you must use a laser printer to print them.

I get mine from Oakes...I've had some for 14 years and they are still perfect.

I looked for them on Oakes and they don't seem to have them anymore. I don't have a laser printer so maybe the p-touch and xtreme tape.

I used a P-Touch label maker for years with good results. Then it started to eat the (very expensive) P-Touch tape. I bought a brand new machine and used it about one season before it developed a software problem such that I can only print one label at a time, instead of printing in a batch.

The reason that this is a big problem (in addition to being annoying) is because after every batch or after every label the machine spits out an extra inch or so of this very expensive tape.

I have a laser printer so did some research and just got a sample of some WATERPROOF Avery labels. These only work with a laser printer and you must get the waterproof ones. I use a size that fits on a 1" x 3" label perfectly and you can download the template for the labels on the Avery website.

Also the labels are a fraction of the cost of P-Touch tape.
