What did it look like when it first sprouted. I have found that Long leaf pine when in their first year look like extra long grass in your yard. Other than that I have no idea until the tree gets much bigger.

5 needles -- some kind of "white" pine, perhaps Pinus strobus (eastern white pine). In the UK might be Pinus peuce (Balkin pine).

Can you give more info on the location? Garden? Park? Uplands? Managed woodland? Forestry Commission plantation? Planted or self sown?

PS: This is in my land...when it was a baby it looked the same except smaller. I don't remember where I got it from....maybe by the side of the road?

seedlings of rare trees dont magically pop up around the world.. so we should probably be looking at native pines in the U"K ...

Here's some pics of Pinus peuce, but many "white" pines look quite similar. IIRC, in the UK most any "white" pine can get White pine blister rust. That disease actually originated in N America, but it's rather rare here anymore in my observations.

Ken, there is only one species of pine native to the British Isles. Anything which is not a Scots Pine, P sylvestris, it is not native. But there are many introduced pines which self sow. And therefore being by a roadside doesn’t mean anything much.
