I did white cabinets in a newly built home in 1994 & we are getting ready to remodel a kitchen this year in an off white color. I still love painted cabinets! I think white cabinets are among the kitchen classics although I would not make them stark white. I plan to use an off white or maybe a very light buttery hue.
Remember resale is often based on location, location, location.
I've heard that many prospective buyers like professional grade appliances. We will add these too.
I tthink marble stains---our kitchen designer said "no" to marble I love the marble look, but do not want the staining. Our designer said there is a quartz material which looks like marble which might be my choice.

White cabinets vs stained is a personal choice and doesn't really affect resale value. The quality of them however will affect the value. In a home as large as yours, I assume you are talking about painted wood cabinets (or MDF) which are lovely when painted. Just stay away from the thermofoil, plasticky finishes in a high end homes as they do look cheaper. I also agree, not stark white, but a warmer cream, or antiqued finish looks more high end.

I agree with the other commenters. I'm at the Jersey Shore and so many of the houses here have white painted kitchen cabinets. The look is clean and airy and bright.
Whatever you choose, make sure that the quality stands out - potential buyers will appreciate it.

It depends on the style of the house. Thermofoil tend to be either contemporary or very cheap looking if they are imitating wood.

Is the mudroom separate from the laundry? If so since the mudroom is a public space I think I would match the kitchen finishes and if you need to save money do the thermofoil in the laundry. I actually have thermofoil in my kitchen but I have modern slab front gloss finish cabinets. I agree with dytecture that shaker or raised panel cabinets meant to look like wood look cheaper in a thermofoil finish.

I agree thermofoil in laundry and mudroom is fine and also very practical. They are doing some very nice modern styles in Themofoil as Sam has, but you are likely not going too modern I presume.

I hope I didn't offend you Sam, the cheap thermofoil I was referring to is the stuff they carry at the big box stores, not meant for a large high end home.

Not at all I am fully familiar with the pros and cons and various opinions on it :) I chose it because my kids would have destroyed expensive lacquered cabinets in 5 minutes

Painted cabs run 10% more then stain labor mostly. Home owners trend white when I'm removing a therofoil white. Just up loaded one we are in the final stages with. In the end it's your house make it your's most of are high end homes that change hands remove the kitchen any way. Just stay neutral with tops and back splash. Good luck
