It doesn't sound good, but you might still get lucky. Give them another two weeks and maybe there will be a stray sprout which made it, you just have to keep your eyes open in the general area. I've had it that a whole clump will die out but just the smallest sprout grows, and it makes a fairly large plant by the end of the season.

Hmmm. Ironically enough many of my chrysanthemums died out this winter, I think they were too wet going into the fall. I'm kind of excited about what to plant in the empty spots ;)

Quick follow-up: most of them didn't come back up, so just dug out all the dead stalks and transplanted several bunches from another part of the bed. The worst thing I have to contend with is these wild violets. I hate those things. They spread like crazy and I suspect they may have played a part in the demise of the chrysanthemums. The past many years I'm forever trying to keep the violets under control but they're pretty tough. Really hard to pull them out in between the iris.

I was just noticing yesterday that this is the best I've ever seen my Chrysanthemums and I have no idea why. Big and bushy, I just pinched them back. Sorry yours did not do well. Mine are in full sun in a bed that gets weeded and mulched well and watered when needed.
