We installed engineered wood flooring last year. My house is a ranch style home with an unfinished basement. The contractor insisted on gluing over the current floor, which was mostly tile, because it would be quicker and they wouldnt have to lift the tile. The rooms were carpet, so the flooring was glued over plywood. We had issues right away with the areas that were glued over tile. Some planks never glued on properly. There were a few areas that started having a snaping sound when we walked over them. The contractor came and rplacd those boards, but other parts started ungluing. Now he’s telling us that the reason is because the basement is unfinished. He says that because the basement isn’t insulated, that the temperature is affecting the glue on the floor. I can’t find any information on this topic anywhere on the internet. He says that once the basement is insulated that the issue will be solved. I feel like that’s something a HO should know before installing floors! I want to know if this might be the case before paying for the basement to be insulated. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
