Landscape architect question

We are redesigning our back yard. We plan to have areas to BBQ, hot tub, and sit under a pergola. We live 50 miles inland from Galveston, TX. Our soil conditions have movement. We have 2 beautiful live oaks. We are wondering if we should build a concrete patio with 4 different sections or have travertine laid however the professionals recommend. Would the travertine be better because it would allow for the movement, or would the cement laid in sections with rebar placed, give the most longevity?
