Kitchen, new build. Is this the best layout?

I’m wondering if anyone can see an issue with switching the pantry with the ovens. I think I prefer the microwave being closer to the sink and fridge. This is a west-facing kitchen with a sunroom to the left (south). I appreciate your thoughts and input on any other issues you see. I will eventually be working with a designer just thought I’d get a head start here.

IMO more imprtant to have the pantry near where you cook on a daily basis so it depends on how you cook .I use my ovens a lot when I cook but I think my fridgeand freezer columns close to my sink are a must so I have those and my wall ovens on one side of theisland and my range on the other side my hubby and I cook together we have back to back sinks in our island and true pullout pantries just arounf the corner from the FF columns/

What about a drawer microwave in the island, on the fridge side? Easy path for those heating up items from the fridge/freezer.

Usually you do not want to have the DW in the path between the sink and cooktop.

Is there any way that the doorway in the corner between the pantry and the range are could be at the bottom of the plan adjacent to the ovens? That would have you an uninteruppted L shape without a traffic pattern through the work triangle. I would not put the wall ovens in a doorway

Is the family entry from garage etc the space on the upper right? So all the traffic foes in and out right through the kitchen? Shift that doorway to the bottom of that wall. That gives you uninterrupted counter between the sink and cooktop, where you will do a lot of prep.

About the west-facing sink: What is outside the window? I lived in a house with west-facing sink, and nothing but fields beyond. It was interesting to see the sun move across the sky throughout the year, but for a good part of the year the glare was pretty strong. Blinds helped.

Thank you @patricia colwell consulting and @rainyseason. I had not considered a drawer microwave but that would allow me to keep the pantry on the sink side.

@palimpsest, ok, I was concerned about the ovens in the doorway. I’ll check out moving the entryway into the kitchen. Thanks

I agree with the advice to put the MW on the island near the fridge and switch the DW to the other side of the sink. It would mean giving up the pantry in the kitchen, but moving the entry is a much better idea. The pantry in the mudroom, would be wider:

I agree with the advice to put the MW on the island, near the fridge. I moved the DW to the other side of the sink, and redid the line-up to place the entry at the other end of the wall. You lose the pantry in the kitchen, but the pantry in the mudroom is wider:

If the dining room is below the kitchen, you might consider switching the fridge and ovens, to make the fridge more convenient to the DR and other living areas:

ETA, in that case you might also think about a prep sink on the island:

@bpath, yes, the upper right is the mud room from the garage. I’m building on an acre and I have some trees and in summer can’t see houses behind me but I’m very much concerned about glare from countertops! I’m thinking the up/down shades so I can still have the evening light. And probably the not polished stone.

@mama goose_gw zn6OH , thank you for the drawings! Makes it so much easier for me to understand the moving of the door. My dishwasher is on my left now and that makes sense to me. Thank you!

Here's something to look at - the island seating and clearance past it. I interpolated your original drawing because I don't know if you are going with mama's layout.

First, I am assuming you are looking for 4 seats. At 24" width for each, you will have knee knocking. Second, when the seats are in, it appears your clearance dimension is sufficient at almost 48", but if the seats are pulled out and occupied, should the circulation past it be wider? If this is the main circulation to those back rooms - is that the Family Room with access to outdoor living? - then ~36" may be tight both visually and functionally.

3onthetree I thank you for the heads up. To the left is the sunroom with slider to the deck and the living room behind.

Well you do have to consider if family are seated at the island eating are there going to be lots of other people walking around and going in and out? Most people I know who eat at the island but also use the island for entertaining use the island for serving and don't have people sitting there at the same time.

I’ll be the only one living here and probably use the island for entertaining and I’m considering putting a prep sink in the island.

I would not be overly concerned if the clearances behind seating is not optimal under all conditions then. It's not a public restaurant, and even then, they always do the "official" seating layout for planning and inspection and then squeeze in more seating to fit in more people.

Yes and I’m thinking 3 chairs may be all I need.
