As a novice, I identified this as a Chinese Pistache (photo above). Is this correct?

Your pictures show two different trees. If you look at the Google images you will see a pinnate compound leaf with opposite leaflets. Your tree has none of those features. It has individual simple leaves in an alternate arrangement. So your tree is not Chinese Pistache. However, I can‘t tell you what it is, not being familiar with Texas trees.

Definitely not the pistache but what I can see suggests a nicer tree. :)

Is it evergreen? Has it bloomed?

Thank you so much. So the Chinese Pistache guess is wrong. (The Chinese Pistache is the second photo - a screenshot I took while trying to identify the tree in the first, third and last pictures). I actually didn’t intend to post that screenshot at all but I can’t figure out how to remove it from the post. 🤷‍♀️ Hence the long explanation. The second photo was posted in error.

The tree has never bloomed and I actually don’t remember if it lost its leaves or not. I should have paid more attention.

Anytime I see a tree pop up on it’s own in Texas, my first thought is Hackberry.

I wonder if this is Sugar Hackberry, Celtis laevigata.

I have the other common one up here in D/FW, so am not as familiar with it.

Thank you. I had wondered if it was a hackberry but the edges of the leaves on this tree are smooth. When I looked at pictures of hackberry leaves they had a bit of a jagged edge. So I’m not sure.

It has a very familiar feeling for some reason! And the leaves do have a distinctive shape that should make it easier. Try crossposting on the "name that plant" forum here on Houzz. More Texans!
