What would you do?

I just had new quartz countertops installed. I talked with 3 different people who represent the company, not one of them said anything about the possibility of a seam on any of the countertops. Even in the contract it states that countertops over 120” long will have a seam, mine is 71”. As soon as they were done installing them I immediately saw a big noticeable seam running down the middle of my breakfast bar. The way they tried matching the veining is horrible! I can’t imagine any of them being ok with this being done to their kitchen. I immediately called them up and told them I was not happy with the outcome and should have been told that there was going to be a seam. She brushed it off like it was no big deal and said sometimes they just have to cut them. Had I known this was a possibility I would have gone with a cheaper option. There was no reason they had to cut it in half the other sides turned out perfectly and are not much smaller and didn’t need to be cut. We paid a lot for what I think looks like a hack job now. Has anyone had a similar experience? What are the chances of them making it right? I really don’t want money back I want the countertops I was promised.

There's a turn in the counter. I suspect the contract says straight runs of up to 120" will use one piece without seam. We need a farther back shot or floorplan of the kitchen to see if that's an explanation, but I don't think we have enough info from the original post.

I would be pretty unhappy with those very visible seams. I’d speak to someone above the person who brushed you off. We’re in the process of remodeling our kitchen and have been told that after selecting our quartz, we will be shown where each seam will be. As far as matching the veining goes, I do think choosing a quartz with that much movement and larger swaths of veining puts you at risk for odd alignment at seams. That aspect of your installation didn’t poke me in the eye the way that the seams did. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. It’s so much money that it’s disappointing when something goes wrong. I hope you’re able to get it resolved in a way that satisfies you and allows you to enjoy your new counters.

When I planned for my new Silestone countertop, I discussed wanting seamless ones with my kitchen designer (KD). This was stated in my countertop purchase and in the countertop fabricators contract. My KD only uses select experienced fabricators. My countertops came out great, seamless. If you want seamless, make sure it is specifically stated when purchasing it and with the fabricators contract

I was clearly told where seams would be with my counters. You should call, complain and mention the 120 inches in the contract. They should redo these counters.

Appears the counter turns a corner. Could you post a photo or sketch of the entire job? The installer should explain.

Get over it. There is NOTHING wrong with those seams. Its agreat seam. Would you be willing to pay another 4K for the extra slab, just to have 1 piece be seamless?

Nope nope nope. You did not get what you paid for. I don't care how lovely the seam is, it isn't supposed to be there. You should not be responsible for paying for another slab, the onus is on them.

@User - did you not see the OP where it says ”even in the contract it states that countertops over 120” long will have a seam, mine is 71”. As you yourself often say on this forum ”what does your contract say?”. The slab was cut and the contract says it would not be cut. Period.

In fact, now that i'm looking even closer at the pic, it looks like the jag at the end of the run abuts up against the range. If the installer had used a single run on that stretch like the original poster wanted, I think that would have required the 6 inch jag to use a different run. And that would look terrible (6 inch strip that doesn't match). Much better to have the seam where it is. And assuming you need a seam there, i think they did a great job matching fwiw.
