Seeing the mock up..... the tiles aren't flat in color, they are beautiful. Makes all the difference.

When you showed us only two tiles and grout colors, I did not see the real color of the tile.

use an @ symbol and type a few letters of the name and it should pop up, click on the name. @Kat Ie

@njmomma thank you! The gloss and textured finish is why I chose these tiles! I love that about them. I’m going with the slate gray then if you all think it’s not too much of a stand out? Thanks again so much for your help! I did have a darker one called cast iron. Ironic because my sink is cast iron but white lol. Husband didn’t like it initially but I think with grout floor competition issue that you all helped me realize, he may be okay with it fading together.

And the tiles look black in these pictures so it really is not a good representation. We have under cabinet lighting also. It is very dark. But not black

@Kat Ie, I hope my post didn't come across as negative about your kitchen, which looks great or the tile, which I also like. As I said, I like the slate grout. I was just curious about the blue. I'm a huge dark blue fan.

@barncatz oh no it didn’t come across that way at at all! I will say there aren’t many options in blue that are in stock lol. Seemed either really light or really dark, or too big! Or not enough texture. Would have been much easier to go neutral! And I’m so glad everyone noticed the grout in floor as being competition. I don’t know how I didn’t notice that! Thanks everyone again!

@Mar thank you! It’s Misterio Quartz (Vicostone). I looove it! The quartz with the huge veins was out of my budget but I found this one much closer and I think I like it better!

im sorry. i misread the original question. i love the color n texture of your tiles. will look so rich with the test of the kitchen. if it were me, I wouldnt take away from the tile color at all by using a grey grout. id use a grout as close to tile color as possible,

@Kat Ie, I KNEW that I loved your counters, I also went with the Misterio quartz! Great minds... I also looked at the large veining but getting those veins to match over a waterfall and around the corner to the right of the sink would've been no small task (and I'm pretty OC about stuff like that). I like subtlety of Misterio, it will be more timeless.

After responding to your post I was out walking the dog and a neighbor invited me in to see their newly minted mudroom. They took out the washer/dryer and put in an elevated dog wash with YOUR NAVY TILES! They did a straight horizontal stack and very dark grout and it is absolutely gorgeous. The rest of the room has white shaker cabinetry and built ins. I think you're going to love the navy tile. Please post pics when done, it will be beautiful.

The backsplash was put in today and I love the tile. But I do not like what it does to my kitchen 😭.. it is beautiful but makes it way too dark for me. I didn’t realize what an impact it would make. I wish I liked dark then I’d love it. Or if it was with wood floors it would prob be perfect. I am going to have to rip it out as much as that hurts ahhhh. Suggestions welcome but I know I want wanted in the first place which is neutral/light. I had originally love the Marlow subway tile in the color tide. So it’s either a light textured glossy subway or a marble maybe mosaic. Let me know what you think would look best and get me my light and airy kitchen back. I’m posting pics so you all can see. The slate grout looks great! I just can’t handle the dark tile. With the under cabinet lights it looks even better but I still can’t take the darkness lol.

Oh nooooo. I’m so sad that you don’t like your tile. Go back to my earlier kitchen pics. My soft matte white with frost Mapei grout could fit the bill unless you are looking for a patterned tile. You could also mix shades of white or consider a zellige. Cle tile has many gorgeous (and pricey) options. Wishing you the best.

This is what I originally wanted. My husband said it would not look good and he wanted color. Well that’s how I ended up in this spot is trying to get his color and I absolutely hate how it lol. This is what I originally liked but the rep was not very friendly last time I was there so I won’t go back to same place. Not sure where I can find this or if I should go another direction. She also told me not to do white because it would look dirty, I felt like no one wanted me to have what I liked it was so weird! Well I don’t want color. I actually don’t even like to walk in the kitchen now, I’d rather go back to the outdated kitchen we had because it was not so dark.

I’m so sorry to hear the dark tile makes you unhappy. I definitely see how, without the under cabinet lights, it has a “dark hole” effect. You need to love your kitchen, so I hope your husband just agrees to whatever light tile you want. The blue is gorgeous- but if it doesn’t work for you, it’s gotta go. Keep us posted.

Whoah - please take a little time here. I went back and read your answer to my question "why blue" and you provided a thought out rationale for this. It is so common when someone has made a dramatic change, that their response is shock and even horror, lol. You are not alone in initially rejecting a dramatic choice.

You have no decorations on the counter to pull the blue foward and through. Take a bit of time staging your kitchen - you said you use blue, right ? and see if that helps.

Cover parts of it with white china pieces, a bright color you use with your blues in other rooms and/or wooden cutting boards.

Put down a rug - looks like you have a wooden counter in the corner, so a faux jute (that can handle water,) as in this kitchen, might be one solution, especially if you add warm wooden or copper accessories. Or a rug that combines your gray, white and blue might be worth a try. Or go buy a new Kitchenaide in a color that looks wonderful against your backsplash.

And leave the under counter lights on at night. Your photo with them on is so pretty!

Thank you fro the recommendations, that picture looks great but I think this type of backsplash would look perfect with a wood floor. It really clashes with my floor. I’m going to see what the cost is of using the same quartz as my countertops for backsplash. I’m not taking it up the the ceiling so hopefully it’s not too crazy. I know it’s more than tile but I know I will love it.

Love how your kitchen turned out. Why not live with it for a bit… maybe you just need time to adjust to the change,

I’m really thinking of doing the quartz (same as my countertop) as the backsplash. It is what I wanted initially and turns out it isn’t as expensive as I thought because there is no labor costs.

Anyone else done this? Or know the pros and cons? I think it will stick out a little by the window and ends since it’s thicker than tile, but will be a finished end. Let me know your thoughts!!

@Kay P I am getting used to the darkness but I still don’t like it in my kitchen. It’s not the feel I was going for. And mainly it clashes with my floors. My husband would rather do it right now than years down road, he doesn’t want to have to hear about it haha!

I have the Anatolia Marlowe in Smoke with a similar shade of grout. It’s a beautiful tile but glossy. I love it but would have been just as happy with something a bit less glossy.

I know a lot of people don’t like grey and/or white kitchens as they’re so common but grey has always been a favorite color so I went with the light grey backsplash and darker grey floor. Our cabinets, should the finishing carpenter ever come back to add trim, will be painted a medium greenish grey (bottoms) and very light greenish grey on top that looks almost white.

What about under cabinet lighting?

Please do what your heart tells you to. It’s your kitchen. Just make sure that quartz behind the stove is safe. Others have said it may not be.

As well said, choose items that make it a part. Btw, blue and grey are a standard combo, and white too. A window shade can have any pattern you like for the house, and maybe same tile hue for fabric, with light, muted, medium blues! etc.

@RedRyder luckily we don’t have to worry about behind a stove, our induction cooktop is on our island with a downdraft :). Far from any backsplash. Thanks for the advice! I keep thinking, I can live with this. But I don’t love it and getting used to it is not how it should be probably be 🤣. Everything else I have loved right away. I should love this right away. I think I’m going to go with the quartz:).

That tile looks beautiful! I think you might want to take a day or 2 before making a hasty decision. What sort of items will be on the countertop? Once you put several things out, it will take on a whole new look. You are also getting a first look at it at night. What is it like during the day?

Give it a minute to settle - it is new and different so it may take a second to register.

Light, brighter sconces above would help imo, even not matching handles.

@everdebz they actually are a good size but I got glass shades, so that could be why they look small. I may try to get the metal shades at some point, but I can’t return these so I’ll worry about that later 🤣

What do you think of monochromatic blue with includes light-dark blue, for items spread around the entire kit. DR?

I’m actually not switching sconces right now, I like my sconces just thought I may replace glass at some point. But I think they will look good with the quartz backsplash. I don’t think they look good with the current dark backsplash.

Wanted to post an updated picture with the new back splash, in case it is helpful for anyone searching these discussions and in the same predicament:). I ended up getting quartz backsplash. I love it so much better. Still need to change the outlets and get some things on the counter. But honestly I could have lived with the other but you really should love it. And I love this, and it was not a big deal for them to take out the backsplash at all!

I am going to ask about the bottom of window sill and see if anything can be done because up close it is definitely not even.
