Agreed. Forbidden Fruit. It is sold by Monrovia this year, so it’s in the big box stores.

^^^ I wouldn't automatically assume that just because Monrovia is selling it. Monrovia doesn't necessarily sell to all the bb's across the country and they typically sell only their second tier merchandise to them anyway. You will almost never find a Monrovia plant at a box store here, never at a Walmart and never for $10!!

It could be lots of different hostas. With some 4000+ cultivars and species, there are too many that look too much alike to be certain unless labeled.

Forbidden Fruit is what sprang to my mind. Also thought OM, but leaf shape does not seen right.

FF is this years miracle lemony. but more honest, definitely looks tet.

since they are growing it in fields its a pretty tough plant.

Hosta_maker, as usual I have a question…..hope it has simple, or you have a reference. What makes you say the plant looks tet? You know me inquiring minds and all….. I do have the Zilis tome and maybe there is info there??

Thicker leaves wider margin shorter petioles. Often they have smaller tighter mounds.

What does "looks tet" mean?

Tet as short for tetraploid. It seems like tetraploid is used to describe thicker leaves as well as extra genetic/chromosome material (duplicated) in thicker leaves. So, a sport of a plant with similar coloring with much thicker leaves looks (and genetically may be) tetraploid.

Lowe's is full of Monrovia hosta this year. They are not selling good varieties, in my opinion. But they are Monrovia. I bought a couple earlier in the year. It seems there are shelves and shelves of Wide Brim and Brim Cup and they are small. The earlier shipments were more varied and larger.

Yes, the independent nurseries have much larger and more selected varieties from Monrovia, but they are selling Monrovia labeled hosta at Lowe's.
