!We're gonna have a .....oops, wrong test

last modified: 4 years ago

I got 2 lines; I officially have COVID.

My DD's BF had it, and she had seemed to avoid it (and got mono instead). We were up in Maine for a few days midweek and she visited. Her school tests them twice a week I think, and she tested positive yesterday. She is asymptomatic. I have very, very mild cold symptoms. So mild right now 'd think nothing of it but used our (free!) home test so that I would know if I needed to quarantine

DH and I got second boosters about a month ago.I had just been mentioning that, for a long time, there were "6 degrees of separation" between us and COVID. Until Omicron, our closest brush with COVID was DH's stepmother's nieces' husband. But in the last month, people closer and closer have come down with it.

Hopefully it stays mild, I am counting on the booster to tamp it, and bedrest.

Consider another booster, and if you are in New England, you may want to mask up.

    It's becoming ubiquitous.

    Yes, and it's all over.

I'm sorry. Wishing you a speedy revovery!

The bad news is that you tested positive. The good news is that you probably have a stash of things to read, puzzles to work on, recipes to imagine, vacations to research and time to visit here with all of us. I hope you have the mildest possible case and no one else in your family succumbs. Relax, pamper yourself and enjoy the blossoms of May.

And how'd ya' know I've been puzzling? You're gonna be sorry, that's a whole new thread.

Take good care. Work fun puzzles. Get well!

Take care, Mtn, and so sorry it found you. DH came down with a cold about a month ago, got tested at a clinic a couple of days after symptoms started and was positive. I started getting cold symptoms 4 days after he did, took a test with a kit a couple of days later and was also positive. It just felt a bit different from my usual cold in that I was very tired for many days. We were essentially fine, but the tiredness took a while to get over.

Hoping your symptoms stay mild and your recovery is fast.

Hope you recover quickly and sorry it had to happen to you!

I'm on my 30 billionth sore throat so will test once again. Luckily my pharmacist doesn't look askance at DH when I send him in for another test or four. Hopefully it's just my usual. Everything causes a sore throat for me. It's probably the honey in the veggie burger I ate. I do attempt things that affect me in small ways every so often. I always pay a little bit of a price; migraine or sore throat etc. As I live around people I test and test again.. Better safe than super spreading.

Take care and feel better soon! I’ve been laid low by a terrible cold of all things - it’s been two weeks and I’m still hacking away. No one believes it’s not Covid (but I’m PCr negative).

robo, there is a bad cold going around that people are getting too that isn't Cv.

I’m very sorry to hear this. wishing you a quick and uneventful recovery. Take care!

    Robo so sorry!

My dear sister had a bad cough a while back. She had had covid so she thought it was another case of covid but tested negative every time. I told her about my experience of drinking the powdered form of Sage in a tea to soothe the throat and the cough and it seems to have worked very well for her. Of course we all take the elderberry syrup and kyolic as well. Sending good thoughts and best wishes for a quick recovery!

I'm so sorry. Hope you're feeling better soon. I feel the same as you that more and more people are getting this variant and they are getting closer and closer to me. They are closing in.

But my son got married this weekend (only 20 people) and no one was sick and so if I get it now I'm okay with that.

So sorry to hear this Mtn, hope you stay feeling almost well, and no lingering affects either!

I belong to a group of women I adore who gather for lunch and political/current events discussion each week and I'm quietly astonished that nobody among the 5-8 regulars has yet gotten COVID. We range in age from mid-40s to mid-70s, most of us are retired but one is a flight attendant who has been back working for months now. We have been meeting throughout the pandemic, always outside spaced out at a big table on one member's condo patio area (overlooking the beautiful gulf waters of the Keys).

If/when one of us gets it I will REALLY feel like it's inevitable. Oddly enough, more so than when my spouse got Omicron on Xmas Day!

I want one of these. It seems most groups I am in are "mixed" and politics is not only NOT the subject, it is expressly verboten. It is frustrating and stupid to me that the most important things I want to discuss, I cannot bring up at all.

I just might need to start one of these!

    Gee, xmas day, that stinks!

Mtn, hoping for the best for you. We got our second boosters recently. I'm about to travel a bit but will quarantine for at least five days afterward (at our lakehouse) to protect DH who is high risk. I'll be stunned if I don't get it.

Jojoco, I am almost completely better, thank you! 95%, and I'd probably be 100% if I didn't stay up nearly all night just goofing off on the web.

I had congestion headache and fever for about 2 days. I think I am supposed to Q for at least 5 days so am stuck for a few more days. I have pretty much stayed in the master suite wing. DH leaves me trays or brings me things tied to a golf club. We all mask up if I leave "my quarters. " 🤪 I'm very grateful that it was so mild by the time I got it; now i am just trying to keep it from spreading.

Yeah, so I am in bed, and wordlessly, I see a golf club coming slowly toward me out of the corner of my eye, with a plastic grocery bag tied to it. Cough drops, and Twizzlers. Rx for the ages.

Hmm, I thought I commented, but I don't see it? Anyway, glad you're feeling better and that your molehill didn't become a mountain. Plus, I wanted to add that I laughed out loud about your thread title. Now THAT would have been a mountain from the start!

Haha, the golf club of sustenance.

When my husband got COVID, by the time we got the positive test results on him I figured it made no sense to try to quarantine or separate. As mentioned in previous discussions we are sharing a very small apartment that's basically 500 SF of togetherness 24/7. I didn't even try to isolate, mask, etc...and never tested positive myself.

Which is not to say I won't. Frankly like many (most?) people who are vaxxed, boosted etc and haven't gotten COVID I generally feel I'm simply waiting for my own positive test results.

I am so happy you are feeling better!! Hopefully (and you all can call me daft if you like…I do not care!) everyone is beginning to be less afraid. Call me psychic. I said that at the beginning. No need to be afraid. LIVE your life. We all die of something.

    Springoz,

My parents are pushing 90. I'm going to visit them next week to help for a few days as my dad is undergoing a medical procedure. Yes, of course we all die of something, but I don't want to put my parents at risk (especially my mom who has a lung condition,). We have different definitions of living ones life, I think. I believe that you can live your life and still be conscientious of other people's risks. Yes, for me that means wearing masks in crowded areas and when I travel.

Indeed, taking unnecessary risks is not my idea of 'living one's life'.

How long is long enough? how old are you? Would you think “we all die of something“ sometime if the person was your spouse or parent or child? Or yourself? In what situations would you personally refuse treatment for anything for yourself or a loved one?

I‘m 74 and hub is 82. We are living a wonderful life and will continue to avoid risks with covid. I wish everyone would. I wish you happiness.

Mtn, glad you are better. I think the 5 days of quarantine were harder than the actual virus in some ways. But for me my Covid experience was smack dab in the middle of allergy season so it was almost hard to separate the two in some ways.

One day about a week Post-C I thought I was losing my sense of smell. Turned out to be just allergies I guess as it didn't develop into anything but a stuffy nose.

Sorry about +ive test mtn. I hope you're feeling well and crossing the quarantine days off your calendar with vigor.

I said that at the beginning. No need to be afraid. LIVE your life. We all die of something.

At the beginning there WAS plenty of reason to be afraid. Not only were we facing an unknown, but there were plenty of deaths. I think at the moment that taking appropriate precautions allows for less isolation and more in person experiences.

That could change at any moment, with some new challenge and then we would have to take precautions apprpriate to that challenge.

I don't think the residents of Bucha took baskets of goodies and went to the park for a family picnic recently; even though we all die of something, it made sense for many of them to hide inside and stay away from Russian bullets.

Apologies. Forgot there was only one side,

That's needlessly peevish. The majority of people who have posted disagree with that particular statement, that's all. You don't need to apologize and neither do they.

Like any risks we take, the risk/reward tradeoff calculation is highly personal and should not be judged,
