Missing photos and your geographic location. We can't offer much help without both.

Not sure why the picture didn't attach. I have updated the post.

Is that space in sun, part sun or shade? I want you to have some evergreen plants there because it would be nice to sit out there after a frost when the bugs are gone but the area still needs to look pretty then. Can the pots go away?

I would want it to be low if you spend time on the porch... First I would dig up the liriope and break up the clumps so they create a wider denser border along the whole bed. The pot could be good next to the porch with seasonal color. The bed I would fill with a groundcover like asiatic jasmine, sword fern, big blue lariope... something that stays low and everygreen.

Low is important, I agree. And the existing liriope is too close to the sidewalk. In my experience it’s an enthusiastic grower and will spill over - I would move it back at least a foot. It looks like you would easily have enough to fill the whole sidewalk edge with it.

Then, find one low-growing flowering shrub for your feature plant in the bed. I’m not familiar with Mississippi growing conditions so can’t help you there. Go to a real greenhouse or nursery to ask for help. NOT Walmart or Lowes, etc.

I’m not a small-pot-on-the-ground lover either. Set BIG pots on the porch, big meaning at least 14” diameter.

Here are some ideas:
