Clinging Vines That Tolerate Acidic Soil?

I have some stone walls installed in a backyard that are serving as raised beds for some Camellias. The soil is acidic. The walls do not look great, and several vendors suggested I cover them with clinging vines. This location will get morning sun and shade starting around 1pm every day. The raised beds live in the canopy of large Redwood trees.

What are some clinging vines that would grow quickly and cling to the sides of the rock walls on these beds? The vines have to tolerate acidic soil and should look good along with Camellias, Azaleas, etc.

I would not mind having some climbing vines behind the Camellias as well. What flowering, climbing vine would look good here and tolerate acidic soil?

I think the walls are too low and too small an area to accommodate any vine. Also isn’t the acid soil inside the bed? Wouldn’t a vine be planted outside the bed at ground level? You could try growing something in the bed and having it hang down.

@floral_uk z.8/9 SW UK There are two other walls that are much wider, but they are all about 2.5 to 3 feet tall.

The hope was to find something that would droop down from the raised bed and cover the wall. Of course, you could grow it from the ground and have it grow up the wall as well. The soil is pretty moisture-retentive clay, so in that case, I would need a vine that can handle that. Most vines want well-drained soils.

I see. I thought you were asking about something to climb because you said self clinging. If it is to hang down there is no need for it to adhere to the wall at all.

Can a clinging vine like Boston Ivy or Creeping Fig ever grow down instead of up? They certainly seem to be able to grow sideways.

No those will not climb downwards There are plenty of plants which will hang down but I know of none which will attach and climb downwards.
