I love the lighting suggestions you were given. I think your color scheme needs to be a little more focused. I am seeing red, yellow, blue, and white in the poster, with red repeated in the chair and the pillows, and that is nice. However, the green paint and the gray bedspread are not repeated anywhere. I would suggest you find a rug, some artwork, and/or a different bedspread that includes all the colors you want to keep in the room. If you can't find something that includes all the colors, edit out the items whose color are not included.

How would you feel about painting the slanted ceiling part over your nook with the red chair the same color as the walls? Those white angles jump out at me. I think a bench, new light and throw rugs would be great additions.
