Beautiful, Paul! Your deep colors are gorgeous. I just put Diablo Hawk in the ground here and I'll have photos down the road. Your roses are easy to love.

So beautiful and so glad it survived and has another chance! Looking at the photos on HMF, and though not of that class, the flowers are enchantingly structured like those of a Portland in my garden that I love to no end, 'Rose du Roi' (of commerce, ex Vintage) for, basically, the blooms alone (the shrub is certainly nothing much and not a strong grower here), but more intensely red. I love blooms like that. If 'Ivy Mike' turns out to grow and bloom well, it will be spectacular.

As ethereal and delicate roses like Olivia Rose are (my only very light pastel), they just don't quite seem to do it for me, especially in the landscape. They just kinda sit there, to my eyes.

My neighbor across the street has a virtually abandoned rose at the mail box. It's a deep, wine color like Iv Mike. It produced a couple of barely there blooms this spring, so in theory - it's a nothing. Yet the gorgeous color of those two measly blooms doesn't fail to catch my attention each time I pass it by, more than all of Olivia Rose's bloom abundance.

She is nice at night though, for a moon garden.

So yey, for one more seducer of this kind!

Severe_Novice - have you run, not walked, across the street to ask permission to take a cutting or two from that rose? The blooms might get better (I am not clear what is wrong with them from your description) if the rose had adequate care. Anyway, I have gotten several fabulous roses by just asking neighbors with neglected gardens in my old neighborhood - also, I tend to anthropomorphize plants, and always want to rescue roses which are not being cared for, if they have any good qualities.

Paul - congratulations! That bloom is gorgeous - can you tell us what the growth habit of the bush is?

Paul your Mel’s Heritage is the star of my garden, she brings us so much joy. I can’t wait to see how Ivy Mike does and for you to give us the opportunity to grow this beauty. For me It has been very difficult to find roses on this color range that repeat, and are very resistant to black spot. I will be dreaming with this one from now on.
