I live in Toronto, Canada. My parents had new sod installed last year. It was a big property so it ended up costing a lot. Because they paid so much I hate to see the money go to waste. They laid the sod in September or October so it’s been 7 months since they had the sod laid. They also had a sprinkler system installed. I feel like there is something wrong with lawn. The grass is patchy. There is some weird weeds growing. I’m hiring a company to come do some fertilizing and weed control. In Canada no chemicals can be used so I assume they are only using iron based herbicides. Other than fertilizing and weed control that I’m doing this month is there anything else I can do to improve the condition of the lawn?

I did some research online and it seems like it’s too late to do over-seeding so I plan on doing it this fall.
