The season: stage one

Stage one: a bloom here, a bloom there. Lots of scapes ready to start. The garden walk is more about other late spring blooming plants.

Jinxy-probably the best this bloom has looked. Well, besides the weeds peeking in.

Debra, lol on the cat named Jinxy because as a matter of fact, my neighbor has a cat with that name!!

Julia, yes my garden is almost too big now to manage all by myself! I keep thinking I will cut back but then I begin looking and wondering what to cut!

Maryl, my cats are still here. I guess you can call it that. They are more like "free range" cats than my cats. They eat here and wander the neighborhood. When it was cold, Spot slept inside but was ready to roam in the mornings. I noticed Hoosier Nan said they have grown Bubba on Tour for years. Do you think it might survive for you?

Sherry, Willamette Mist is a delicate looking bloom and rarely has a bad one-it does tend to bloom short for me but that is fine-it is an early bloomer and is gone by the time the others really begin.

Kay, I loved that Jinxy bloom too. It was a cool morning and I think the colors just really stood out. As I said, it was the best it has ever looked.

Your bargain basement roses (now a 2-fer-1) sure do like you. Very pretty. That's a very saturated red on your Amaryllis. Is this the forced at Christmas kind? Is it in ground?......The star of your show for me personally is Bubba On Tour. I've been so tempted by it for years, but it's a Buntyn Sev, so too tender for me. My DH is a taciturn sort of guy, but of all the cats we've had his favorite was Bubba. Ask him for a picture of his son and he'll open his wallet to a picture of Bubba. Bubba is on a heavenly garden tour now, but seeing "HIS" daylily is a nice reminder of him...........Maryl

Yes, Maryl, that amaryllis is one of those! I have others that are in pots in the house but this one has been in the ground for years. It is always late to bloom and this heat shortened the bloom life this year.

What a gorgeous cat!! I can see why he was a favorite. What breed was he? That fur!!! Beautiful.

Jinxy looks good to me. I may get Lava Flow one of these days, just to have another extra early one. Gorgeous amaryllis, and you really got a nice bogo with that Rose.

Kate: I found Bubba wandering around the neighborhood and took him in. He was "touring" even as a kitten. No breed except kitty kat. Are yours still with you?........Interesting that you are able to grow the decorative Amaryllis in ground. We are close in zones, but our winters are more severe. The Hippeastrum you sent froze to death that one really bad winter even in the garage.................Maryl

Beautiful pics Kate. As soon as I see a weed coming up I've been plucking them out however with a large garden like yours, it would be near impossible. Think of the weeds as adding accent to your blooms. :-).

Maryl: Bubba must be a mix since he has so much long hair. Nice color mix.

I really like Jinxy. I have considered getting that one. We have grown Bubba on Tour for years and it has done well here.

Bubba was indeed a beautiful cat. He looks like he was a big one too.

I really like that amaryllis. Mine will be starting soon.

Pretty group of daylilies. The first 3 really are eye catchers.

I don't know how I missed this post. I like the Bubba the daylily and Bubba the cat. Jinxy looks gorgeous with all those colors. (Doesn't anyone have a cat named Jinxy to go with that daylily?) I always like Willamette Mist when you post it.

Glad to hear your boarders are still around. Pearl knows who opens the cans and pays the electric when it's cold. And thanks for allowing me to show our Bubba. We miss him so........As for the daylily, in ground Bubba On Tour may do alright (and I'm pretty sure Nan's is in ground), but I don't think so in a pot. I base this on past experience with several other Buntyns that I've grown. Maybe some day when space is not at such a premium I'll give it a whirl though......Maryl
