I've been lately expanding my houseplant wings into some of the fancy tropicals (alocasia, catalthea) like that. They are all rather fussy. I didn't read the article, but I will tell you for sure they like humidity and can also get root rot easily. Watering is tricky. Good luck!

wow that sounds like a lot of hard work. I am getting back into my plants craze phase, but in a different location this time (NJ zone 7). The little tab stuck in the soil said ”low light-partial shade” which is why i bought it! I had no idea it was so fussy. Hopefully it lasts. I’m thinking of purchasing a humidifier… haven’t decided yet! will see how it goes! Thank you for all the googling! 😊

There are many varieties of Calathea

. It is a Grey Star Calathea. I have the same plant. In reading about them they are finicky plants to care for. I know they prefer filtered light. I’d be sitting in my chair and notice the plant move….a bit disconcerting….but after reading, found out the leaves curl and uncurl. They are beautiful aren’t they?!!

This makes me sad because i would hate to see mine wither and die. i live in a high rise apartment so not much i can do for a fussy plant. Studio apartment at that… in NJ. Love to wake up to see the leaves spreading out and in the PM closing up for the day and showing its beautiful purple leaf undersides…

I don’t know how many plant lovers (or likers) use these, but i must say I already find it pretty useful. I purchased it off Amazon, especially for this plant, to get the right amount of watering. Right now the soil is right in the middle according to this moisture meter which means its moist and not wet or dry (so far), yay!
