I have been thinking about this. When I bought Brother Stefan, it was 4-5 years ago. I found a bunch of them at Home Depot and bought 3, two for me and one for my MIL. They were all root-bound with multiple leafy eyes, quite a cheerful find. I grow one in a pot and the other in a basket in the ground. My MIL grows hers in a pot in the ground. All have done well. Maybe it helped to have bought it root-bound, not shipped? And maybe it likes to be root-bound, to grow within a limited space? Here are mine. The one in the ground is in more shade and gets more water. It grows more horizontally with softer colors, but has great contrast later in season. The one in the pot is in part-sun and tends to dry out because it just beyond the range of my hose. When I remember to bucket-water, I do. It is a bit taller (could be perspective), smaller leafed, a bit smaller than the one in ground, and brighter. For perspective, Elegans is the blue one and Sunset Grooves the middle one. SG’s pot is about 12 in tall.
