It isn’t clear from the photos if the brick is protruding from the drywall a bit, if they are flush with the drywall, or if they are inset. If the bricks do protrude, it seems that drywall putty could be used to fill in the gaps.

They ran the drywall flush. That’s the problem. I felt there should have been a reveal with the wall recessed behind the brick.

It looks pretty rough in person. Want it to be more finished. Thinking about trim work maybe? Only option I can think of now. Just wanted to see if there’s other ideas

I agree that gap makes it look odd. The gap bothers me more than the lack of reveal. You could fill it with mortar, or some sort of patching compound that looks like mortar (light gray with a sandy finish).

I think socalgal is on the right track. You could try spackling compound (put it in a plastic baggie, cut a tiny bit off a corner, and squeeze a thin bead into the gap). After smoothing with your finger and allowing it to dry, paint it the same color as your wall.

Would this beading, or similar, cram in there and lend itself to being painted? (It does come in smaller diameters.)

What looks like a gap is actually the grey edge of the drywall over hanging the brick. I’m probably going to just have entire wall ripped out and go from there

Why not just enlarge the space around the brick and consider using a beading material.

It really looks OK as is.

Tear away drywall edge bead would be a better solution.

I am wondering why the wall is so thick. Is that a framed wall? Or a masonry wall behind the sheetrock? Is there a switch box or outlet box on that wall? Pull a cover and see if you can determine what is going on.

Are there nailing battens affixed to a masonry wall? Or is the drywall glued to masonry? How thick is the drywall? IOW's, I'm wondering if there is a way to reduce the thickness of the wall so that the brick would stand proud of the finished wall.
