It's not too much white; it's two different whites. Your furniture is warm white tending to cream. Your lamps are cool white tending to gray.

If this were my room, I'd be getting lamp shades that match the drapes so that the lamps "disappear. The lamp bases might be ORB like your hardware, or I might just match the cream. I'd also add a couple more touches of red--maybe a throw or sub in a red pillow.

It's not bad, but it could be taken "to the next level". Is it maybe the curtains? Are they too plain /too stark white? A similar curtain with a small white-on-white pattern or a small blue check maybe?

The table/lamp scale is wrong. The lamps are too big (mainly tall) for the side tables.

My photo does not do well in showing the scale of the furniture or the lamps. The lamps are actually smaller than they appear and have been measured to the correct height. They do look huge in this picture so I will try different lampshades, cream and blue to start. I thought the white lamp and white table, actually white and cream, needed to be broken up so I put the "placemat" under one lamp, although I don't think that is the solution. Painting the lamp red was a suggestion from someone else, but I thought it might be too much. I will add more red accents to see how that looks. Thanks for your suggestions.

Paint the lamp bases to match the lobster on the pillows. Try a shade that matches the table or go with a solid navy one. You might need a shorter harp to lower the lamp a bit.

It's impossible to tell not being there... but I like that in front of wood stained windows/ ceiling, your lighter items add fresh contrast.

But on a dark and lively rug, I wish for photoshop onto the coffee table, of added depth/color - a neutral greigey wax, chalk paint?

t's not the whiteness of the lamp table it's the too dark rug, and it's hard to imagine that someone would set out to actually assemble a Red, White & Blue style room. See how these rugs change the appearance of the room.

None intend offense likely, but to be honest, I used to wonder about the red/white/blue combination; I studied color preferences, usually based on the individual's eyes/skin/hair coloring - how we're all different. Those with some strawberry, auburn, red coloring might really like red/white/blue in combination... freckles, anyone? ;)

I think your room is lovely. However, if you think something is “off”, do you think it might be the end tables being to “matchy” with the coffee table?

Get larger blue placemats for under the lamps. I like your room. And lamp sizes I like lamps higher for reading !!! A rug with more white would help

Different lamp shades or lamps and shades. The tropical leaf print on the shades is incongruent with the rest of the decor. The lamp bases are beautiful and may work in another space.

Try table runners sideways under the lamps, so ends hang off sides of tables. (With a rug grip piece cut to size under to keep them from sliding around). Since you like a coordinated look you could use same pattern but maybe different colors for energy.

the dark color of the rug makes the coffee and end tables stand out as too white. A lighter rug with whites and blues will tie in all furnishings in a visually more pleasing fashion.

@Everdebz nailed it. The dark rug sucks the light out of the room. Try removing it and putting a plain white sheet there and you’ll see why she’s right. I actually like your room! It’s cozy and inviting.

You keep posting about this room on new threads so it is confusing. You stated on another thread you want to keep the rug. It would have been helpful to pot that info in this new post. Personally I would change the lamp shades (as I suggested before) to a sand color. I think you have enough white in the tables and lamp bases. You can carry a theme to far if you are not careful. A room always needs the unexpected and I think sand color lampshades will create that for you. Good Luck

Try putting large rectangular blue “doilies” on the two side tables to reduce the white overload.

I like the shades' blue, like the sofa. I like the pewter-y handles, like the grey in the rug. I like the room.

Change tables as said to a medium neutral, either the end tables or the coffee table - photoshop. What about a pewter grey that blends well with rug?

How about wrapping the curved part of the lamp base in rope? It would give a nod to your nautical theme, and add texture.

The lamp is too big for the table so a bigger table or smaller lamp.

The Red White & Blue is classic Coastal and/or Nautical. The rug is nice and works with your scheme.

I would take this opportunity with the lamps to vary the scheme/add visual interest. So perhaps bring in a lamp with a metallic base, or some rope detail on base as suggested, or maybe rattan, or perhaps something like these:

imo, you need to add in some other elements and textures or the scheme potentially becomes redundant and just falls flat. And a good way for you to do this would be with the lamp choice.

I like the room just the way it is, except for the rug. It is too formal, too busy and the colors do not fit.

Since you asked ;) Beverly's good rugs increase the coastal waterway casual look. I see it nice with wood ceiling -- if it's fairly rustic and rough, I think that's an ideal vibe.

But, as the room is right now, I don't like lobster's reddish-brown with the dainty floral, sort of cherry red rug... I'd remove him/her lobster, or go with Beverly's great rug ideas... and let's see!?
