kitchen island lantern! HELP

We are renovating our kitchen and our kitchen light fixture just got hang. I love the over size two lanterns look. After they are hang today I have doubts about them being too big. Our island is 111”67”. The lanterns we got is large fancy darlana from visual comfort. Lantern size is 22”38”. I am debating whether I should go a size down to medium size lantern( 17”* 29.5”). They won’t return my lanterns since we already installed them so that will be buying new ones again🥹

I'm not a big fan of island pendants in general, but I think yours look fine. Having a negative reaction when we first install something new is very typical and usually turns out to be an overreaction!

The design isn't heavy and you have the ceiling height to carry that size. Since you would be taking a loss in any case, why not just wait a couple of months till the shock of something new in the space wears off. I think you will then find that they look just fine.

I love your kitchen. I like the lanterns, but they do block a lot of that gorgeous kitchen. I bet you could sell them for close to full value if you decided on the smaller size.

I am not sure where should I post those lights. I will be happy if I can get half what I paid for😂

I like the size for this application and think they work bec they are airy. I have miscalculated with fixtures by undersizing them so it’s nice to see when someone gets it right;). Your kitchen is lovely. Are the cabinets custom and what are the colors used.

The pendants look like they were purchased for a different home. List for sale on FB marketplace or something similar. I would work with a local lighting store that might let you bring some styles and sizes home without installing them. They don't need to hang permanently to be able to tell if they work.

@nugmeg w, cabinets are custom from wood harbor, the color is designer white, I am not sure whether you can buy the color on paint in paint store.

Some pictures from different angle. Seriously debating whether I should buy 17” medium size ones now since they are on sale for Memorial Day…. But my husband told me to wait two three months to see whether I truly don’t like the size, because he think the Medium might be too small for our island.

I think that the lanterns are way too large for your kitchen However, don't rush out to buy the smaller size just yet, since you would have to purchase them. Live with these for a while; you might find the lighting inadequate for your kichen and would need a different style of lighting, rather than a lantern. Another sale is always coming along.

If you think it doesn't look proper, just change it. If I feel something is wrong in my house, then I try to tolerate it, I'll fail finally. It does look a little too large visually.

Don't know how long is your island. Perhaps you can try the formula:

Maximum diameter of pendant lights = kitchen island width - 12"

@hestia, I read those articles before I order. That is why I ended up with this giant lanterns 😂our island is 111 inches long, so that minus 12 is 99 inches. My light is only 22 inch width, so only 88 inches in diameter. It should be fine based on the article. I started to get used to them though. We will see after we moved in, we still need some other work done in the kitchen before we can move in.

Thet do look a bit big, but id say live with them a bit and see how it is once all done

since youre our the moent anyway, youll have to take a loss on replacing them. i’d give it a while to see if you warm up to them or really cant tolerate

Your kitchen is lovely but IMHO (and I'm not a pro/designer so feel free to disregard my opinion), both the scale and the style of the pendants are wrong. Since you can't return, take your time in finding new ones.

    Your dog is so cute!

Those are my inspirations for my kitchen, I do love the over size lantern look over the kitchen. Our work station will not be in the island. We have another sink next to our cook top and that will be my main work area. The island will be mostly for entertainment and over flow if we got two people work In The kitchen .

    couple things,

You have cut the cord, and hopefully have the extra chain still, but having cut the cord, limits the buyer for resale, just keep that in mind. You cannot return them no either.

Your inspo island and kitchen had a much larger feel, If they offer a size down, I think you would still get the look you are going for. However I think I would have went with a round shape.

@Ral relocation Wow, thank you for your photoshop. My inspiration photos they all use the 17” one. I knew because the 17” one only has 4 candles. Thank you for your suggestions, very helpful. Where is the round shape lanterns from? I do like those ones. Prefer no glass though, just don’t want more cleaning work.

just search large round pendant lights. I just pulled something for an example.
