Since here season is short i nip the tips of branches with 5 to 6 leaves and then afterwards new sprouting branches appear at the site i remove those as well.

That helps slow the vegetative growth and helps it go into flowering stage - figs.

Being in zone 5 this is what i have done for many years to get the figs.

Each season can be different growing them in containers this season late start due to cold spring as i do not have a greenhouse and even the fig shuffle was late .

Stop fertilizing the fig tree. It appears you soil has enough fertility for the fig, and adding more makes it want to grow leaves, not figs. Just adding compost is enough to keep the tree healthy. It does not need more fertilizer than that. A slight stressed tree will produce more fruit than a completely healthy tree.

Thank you. I'll stop the fertilizer and stick to the compost. Is it OK to do some pruning now that it's put out the first fruits? I forgot to add I'm in zone 8b.

You could do some light pruning. Major pruning is best to do during the winter. And fig may still put on more fruit. Some people tip the ends of the branches at the third set of new leafs, trying to induce it to produce more fruit.
