Bedroom Windows - help

OK we moved two months ago, and even though I LOVE the view out the master BR and the sunrises are glorious, I want something to close at night. I may not close them every night, but some mornings I might like to "try" to sleep past 5am.

I'll probaby just go with cellular shades, because I think it's nice that they have an R-factor particularly in the winter. (The house was built in 1905, and even though it's been improved more R's are always appreciated.) I might add some color with side panels. Dont think I want a valance because I like the trim. Side panels might be problematic though due to the eaves.

Pardon the unmade bed.

I really like the color of the trim painted by the previous owners which is fortunate since it is throughout the house, and they painted the trim in oil based paint. The color is called parsnip and it is taupey-gray.

What a beautiful view-- and I also love the trim. I would be loath to cover up the view or trim but I get your desire to sleep past sunrise. I would stick with your plans for cellular shades and leave it at that. Panels will be tricky and will inevitably cover that gorgeous view.

Congrats again on the new house! I can see why you love it!

Jinx — nice orange curtains. Linen?

Oh what a view! Inside mounted cellulars would make a big difference in cold weather. I wouldn't do side panels as they'll just cover up more trim.

Otherwise, sleep with eyeshades...that's what I do in the summer when I want the windows open but don't want to be waken by the sunlight....of course they don't stop being woken by the owl hooting like the one last night....

Petal, I think so, but didn’t see the source. (Love that color for my own house!)

After having orange roses, way back, I eally have grown to appreciate orange flowers. DH isn’t wild about orange. haha

A few days ago I bought some gorgeous complex orange bidens and some blue lobelia to put together. French country colors?

Inside mount cellulars is what I was thinking. @Jilly I love the idea of cafe curtains, that is what I will be doing in our dining area. And what I did in the bathrooms.

Do you all think I should just go with white for the cellulars?

Also, anybody have a recommendation for a company to order from?

Such a pretty room, even without the lovely view!

My 2 cents. I would not add cellular shades, they will take up a few inches and they are so not in keeping. If I had to , i might put bamboo. But the problem is you only have room for inside mount and then you are giving up 25% or so of your view and light.

We went with Hunter Douglas. They are $$ but they are really good quality and super insulating...the honeycomb is lined with a foil type insulation. We got the ones without the strings so you just lift or lower.

I've gotten regular shades from Blinds To Go and they seem to have decent quality too.

I would use cellular shades in the same color as your trim. They will disappear visually when fully open.

Bamboo/woven wood shades will take up more space at the top when open than cellulars will. I have both (in different rooms!) in my house.

I would look at TheShadeStore for cellular shades. I would need blackout.

Love the room, the windows, the paint, the view and the location!. Agree that the most minimal covering possible would be best. What a fabulous place!

Skipped down to say I was thinking cafe curtains too. So simple and adaptable.

Here aresome interesting shades that give you a couple options. They have an independent privacy liner, so you can pull both parts all the way up, or just use the shade by itself or use the shade and liner. Unfortunately i dontknow the manufacturer but its probably not hard to find.

Jinx, I went to look at and save that orange linen curtain because I’m now thinking of whipping up some quick summer curtains. I mean, I want near instant, translucent curtains, no fussing w tabs, hems, and so on.

Voila! Looks like Orange curtain person had the same channel — s/he just folded the top over, put in pincher. No hem ;) Hey, when you’re busy, you’re busy!

Awesome, Petal! I can’t sew, so have done hems that way myself. Got creative with a glue gun and beads. :)

FWIW, in the past, I've used vintage linen tablecloths with curtain clips - super simple because they're already hemmed - very easy to put up, and change out. If they were too long, I simply folded the top over to make a little tier, and clipped on the folded edge

I bought cellular shades from Home Depot and have been happy with them. Inside mount installation is pretty simple.

I purchased cellular shades for my last project. The shade store had the best selection and prices online. I LOVE wood blinds. I have Hunter Douglas & several other nice brands. They do make the room dark when fully closed....and the wood has a warm look. Hint: get real wood and cloth tape. Smith + Noble is my favorite brand!

I just love seeing photos of your new home. I agree with Sueb, get cellular shades the color of your trim. They stack up and disappear. I usually am a fan of some type of fabric on a window, but in your case the lovely trim and view should be showcased!
