Front door color

My wife and I moved into a new home and we'd like to change the color of the front door. We are considering Behr "Red Pepper", but we're not sure if it looks right.

What are your thoughts? Too dark? Too bright? Wrong color entirely? Thanks!!

I think it needs to be way brighter— the chili pepper has too much black in it for under the covered porch. I love a red door and it will look stunning against the earth colors.

When you paint the door, paint the frames around the little windows for a more cohesive look. I think one of these Benjamin Moore colors would look stunning.

Great color and plays well with the sage green/grey trim.

I like your red sample and the Carriage Red posted by houssan. Looks good.

Because I’m not a fan of red anything lol and like complementing a house’s color scheme, I prefer a shade like below, which will enhance the lovely stone.

If you want the door to be centre stage, go bold, but consider a more complementary (and unusual) shade.

Color me concerned about the difference between the two photos -- what looks bright up close may end up nearly invisible from the end of the sidewalk! I like lisedv's suggestion of the white trim, but I also suspect you may need to push the color a bit to get it to show in the porch cave.

I love a front door that references a color in the landscaping. If you don’t want to add color, a bright green to match your shrubbery would make it look very cohesive. If you like the red, you might add coleus to your plantings. Whatever color you choose, add a bit of it to your garden.

The matching the flowerbeds is a very nice idea when you live in an area where flowers grow year round but I would think a purple front door might look out of place in a winter scenery.

That’s a good point, lisedv. In a cold climate, you might want to think about evergreen shrubs as color inspiration for your door so it isn’t hanging out there on its own in the winter. :)

I love the colors in Maureen's photos, especially the first one..

If Maureen’s door was my color choice, I might plant this blue spruce color nearby.
