Protecting wood foundation next to pool decking

I am currently having a pool installed. The decking will come right up to the exterior of the home. The pool designer originally thought that the house was on a mono slab, but when the crew came out for a site visit, they realized that the addition is built on a wood foundation. So one end of the pool decking will run along the mono slab, and the other end will run along the wood foundation. The pool company suggested doing something to protect the wood. They said they'd leave an air gap between the decking and the wood, but suggested I talk to a general contractor, too. I did speak to my contractor who is currently finishing up my renovation, but he hasn't been much help. Any suggestions on what should be done? That step/railing there is just temporary, so it's that piece of wood running along the bottom of the addition that we're concerned about. Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
