Perhaps one of the giant conifer aphids, Cinara species. There are several that attack junipers.

where are you... should i suppose northern bc? .. how about big city name...

how do you rule out winter damage... what direction does the wall face ...

how long in the ground.. do you only water by drip ... how was it planted.. how did you water it in ..

frankly.. it presents more as a water issue.. than one single bug making half the plant brown ...

This juniper is covered with them and with with webs. Top to bottom.

it faces the same direction as 4 other junipers with similar drainage and exposure. They display small amounts of similar damage. Damage spreads in late spring. Look perfect all winter. Yes winters are cold but snow load minimal and wind light here.

Grows well rest of the year. Similar damage last year and after suggestion to keep branches of plant damp, subsided.

i have mini bubblers availible for each plant but am very light on the water. Springs are wet here. Yes I think root rot or poor drainage could certainly be an issue although the other moonglows should be in the same boat.

Is there anyway you can get a close up picture of the bug, it may help with getting a postive ID on what the pest is.

What I can say is it appears to be to big to be any kind spider mite, and its not the right shape to be a juniper stinkbug. It could be cinara but its hard to say.

Here are 2 different bugs both in good numbers on this plant. maybe the second in the center of frame more mite sized. There are quite a number there and clustered in places elsewhere.

Don't mist - blast them off with the hose using a strong stream of water. The most efficient and unobtrusive way of dealing with aphids of any type.
