Best Dehumidifier for Basement

Hi Guys,

I am looking to buy dehumidifier for my basement and looking what’s the best option in Canada.

I found three dehumidifiers below in Costco. I was wondering if anyone has any inside about them or maybe there are better options at around this price or more?

I think all three are made by the same company in china. The biggest issue with these dehumidifiers is getting rid of the condensate. Those with a built in pump don't last very long (usually a month after the warranty expires).

With my electronic dehumidifier (not one of these) I found it very annoying that I could not set the actual on and off times. I wanted mine to run when the electricity rates were cheaper (Ontario), turn off for the time when electricity was high and start back up again at preselected times, but it didn’t work that way.

I have this one which I bought from amazon. My daughter has the same one for her apartment. I use it on my main level of my home. I empty manually since I only have to do it once in the morning and once before bed. We have been very happy with it. It has a washable filter, timer, can set humidity level, pump for continuous draining and shuts off when full if using bucket. It is easy to see when it is full and is easy to empty. They may make a 70 pint as well if you are dealing with very high humidity.

Get a plug-in timer ($12) and plug the dehumidifer into it.

The last 2 ones on your costco list didn’t have very many/very good reviews. I need a new one as well and some other dehumidifiers have a function where the dehumidifier will automatically come back on after a power outage, whereas some don’t. This would be important to me …maybe not for others.

We've been running this Danby dehumidifier from Best Buy for the past year.

Previous Danby units we had lasted 20+ years, sometimes with a change of the fan. (But those were not manufactured in the PRC.) Best Buy Canada has regular promotions on small appliances.

I got a Midea Cube via Amazon - so far VERY happy. It's an inverter and has better design than most.
